in #history7 years ago (edited)

Most of you must have hear about a very famous book "A Study of History" by Arnold J. Toynbee and some of you might have read it. A remarkable book spanned over 10 volumes that took him thirty years to complete. This book is difficult to understand if one doesn't have prior knowledge of world's history, geography, economics, politics and literature but I'll try to share the basic crux with you. It would help us to understand how we can save our identity and progress globally.

An Intelligent Unit of History

When Toynbee started his research on human history, he needed to find what he called, "An Intelligent Unit of History" by which he could start. what he found after looking different units was that history was the story of kings and not ordinary men, geography changed quickly, language changed after short distances, nation changed, so he could not pinpoint any unit. He started from his own nation Britain, which spread over the world at one point and then squeezed into a small island in another era.

Research on Civilization

He started to study the different eras of History starting from the 18th Century and went back to 6th century when British left their old Religion and accepted Christianity.

To be continued...
