Discover the ancient cemetery of a family of ancient seafarers

About identification

The ancient cemetery found on the north coast of Aceh is known as a family funeral from the sailors of the century before the fifteenth is because there are several names of tomb owners who hold the title Muallim. Muallim is an Arabic word which means a navigator.

About the location

The location of the discovery of this ancient tomb is not far from the beach known as Syamtalira. Syamtalira sentence in Persian / Kurdish meaning: Here, the soil contains salt. In fact, Syamtalira is indeed a prominent salt-producing area in the region. Life in the region is closely related to the sea and maritime. It is, therefore, quite logical that the sailors' graveyard be found in that area.

Some conclusions

From the inscriptions contained on some tombstones, it may be concluded that the Sumatran sailor's family were the people known as the Barjan family, from the descendants of a man named Barjan.

This is one of the most important discoveries found by CISAH in disclosing the marine life that has connected the Asian mainland with its islands.
