Do you wonder how Istanbul seem at Byzantium (Eastern Rome) period?
Having a special interest in the Byzantine Empire and the Constantinople since his childhood, Helbert has painted pictures of the city he has read over the years, his illustrations and the journey he made to Istanbul. The drawings offer a selection from different periods between the 4th and 13th centuries. Although some of the structures that appear in the pictures reach this day, unfortunately most of them are no more. Here is Constantinapol from Helbert's pen.

Magnaura : Big Saloon
The main entrance to the Great Palace was at the Hall of Fame in the ceremony area called "Augustaion". Augustaion was located to the south of Hagia Sofia, where the main street of the city, Mese Caddesi, was starting. To the east of the area was Magnaura, who first served as a university after being a Senate building.
Bukoleon Palace
Bukoleon Palace; It is a Byzantine seaside palace located in Çatladıkapı area between Istanbul and Kumkapi on the shores of the Marmara Sea on the historical peninsula, just east of Küçük Hagia Sophia and today only the remains have survived. If you look at the name which is believed to come from pre-Christian times, it can be thought that history goes back to ancient times (Bukoleon Port). But the first information about the palace belongs to the middle Byzantine period (from the middle of the 9th century to the beginning of the 13th century). Accordingly, Bukoleon Palace Emperor II. It was built by Theodosios (ruler 408-450). The known and still visible sections were most likely added to the time of Teofilos (829-842).
