Have you ever thought about what it would be like the apartment block that you leave in to start moving?

Just sitting at the table, serving breakfast ,looking out the window and seeing how the whole city block is moving.

I am not talking about an earthquake, i am talking about a engineering wonder.

It all took place in Bucharest, Romania in the year 1983, yes 35 years ago engineers managed to move a whole building weighing 7600 tons.

Now let me break it down.

The five-storey building was moved because it was not lined up with the rest of the buildings, the decision was taken by the Romanian leader at the time Nicolae Ceausescu.
The basement no longer exist since 1983, it was given up when the buiding was moved.
My aunt who lived in the building at that time told me how it was like.
„People on the street were amazed ,some of them even attended ,watching the whole process.I mean it is amazing that a building that size being moved so easily in just six hours.
You could not feel a thing, the electric power was working, they moved the block with the lights on.

Before they started the moving , first the layered the foundation in the new spot then they got the building on tracks with bearings, it was moving like a train„

Since then the building survived all the earthquakes and still stands today.

Other buildings and monuments have been moved during the communist era, among them a church weighing 1278 tons and was displaced 58 m in 1982 and a year later another 22 m.

Thank you for your time
