Caroline Willard Baldwin First Women to earn a PhD in Science

In 1895 Caroline Willard Baldwin became the first women to earn a PhD in Science from an American University.

She placed 3rd in her graduating class at Cornell University.

Three years earlier 1892 she was also the first women to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree from the School of Mechanics at the University of California .

She was one of the speakers at the commencement ceremony .
