The Vanir from Norse mythology

Hello everyone,

Today I decided to write about a group of gods/goddesses from Norse mythology, these days often found as humans, for example in television series called “Games of Thrones”.

These gods are the Vanir/ Wanes. They are associated with fertility, wealth, exploration, wisdom, nature, magic and most important the ability to see the future. They are also known as the sworn enemies of the warrior gods of the Aesir. The Vanir are located in Vanaheim.

Name of the Vanir was first compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional sources and in the poetry of skalds.

As known for the gods, the Vanir were immortal, otherwise their eternal youth maintained artificially and they could also be slain.

Another thing to mention, the Vanir and the Aesir had been at war for ages when they decided to make peace. For its assurance were traded hostages: rulers and wisest men were traded. Unfortunately, the Aesir cheated and their sent man was killed. However this betrayal did not lead to another war and the gods of the Vanir were integrated with the Aesir.
