Old Austrian Medals
Historical lesson :)
Today I shot some old Austrian medals, they seemed interesting to me. Every medal has a heroic story behind it, they didn't give it away just like that.
These are the medals of the Slovenian officer and baron Andrej Čehovin (1810-1855), he completed a gymnasium in Ljubljana and later a military artillery school in Vienna. He served in the Austrian Empire under the Marshal Josef Radetzky.
Big silver medal for courage
He got it for a decisive role in the Battle of Montanari, given to him by Marshal Radetzky.
Great Gold medal for courage
The Battle of Sommacampagna, where he took command, instead of the fallen commander, and enabled the counterattack with his own artillery fire and later victory. The medal and rank of the lieutenant given him by marshal Radetzky.
Knight's Cross of Maria Theresa
The Battle of Novarra, where, despite the heavy losses, his artillery support enabled the retreat of Austrian units. On 13 June 1850, Emperor Francis Joseph awarded him with the highest military decorations, the knight's cross of Maria Theresa. Under the rules of this order, he was simultaneously elevated to the baron.
And the choosen tune is, of course, The Radetzky March

Hah! Love it!
When you think of the journey traveled by these artifacts through the ages to get to where you see them, it is fascinating. Then you pause and think of the heroic deeds back then and imagine the feeling of the struggle, victory and then awarding, that is something else.
Awesome story and history!
Thank you. Yes, you're right. History can lead you to interesting stories and facts. I started with pics but find facts I don't know for them.
