Kumar Chokshanada Sangakkara (Sinhala: කුමාර සංගක්කාර; born October 28, 1986) is a professional former Sri Lankan cricketer born in the Matale area. He is also playing Test cricket for the Sri Lankan team. Earlier, he represented the national team in one-day internationals and Twenty20 internationals. He is considered one of the best batsmen of all time in the world of cricket. Nicknamed 'Sanga'
Kumar Sangakkara captained the Sri Lankan national cricket team. He is a left-handed and top-order batsman. Although he initially played the role of wicket-keeper, he stepped down in order to increase the batting average in Test cricket. He is the second highest run scorer in ODIs and the fifth highest run scorer in Test cricket till May, 2015. He also broke all records as a wicket-keeper.

The second wicket is the longest partnership in the history of Test cricket. In July 2006, he scored 624 runs with Jayawardene against the South African cricket team, the longest partnership in the history of Test cricket. The then world record for the second wicket was Roshan Mahanama-Sanath Jayasuriya's 225 against the Indian cricket team in Colombo.
Mahinda Rajapaksa of Hambantota scored 13,000 runs in the third ODI against the visiting England team on December 3, 2014 at the International Stadium. As a result, he became the fourth player in the history of ODIs to touch this milestone. He is preceded by Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting and Sanath Jayasuriya.
He also scored 63 runs in the game, scoring the second highest 91 half-centuries in the history of ODIs. As of December 16, 2014, only Sachin Tendulkar is at the top with 98 half-centuries before him.

In Test cricket, he has repeatedly climbed the Test cricket rating as the No. 1 batsman in the world. He has been in the ICC Test batting rankings with AB de Villiers several times from 2005 to 2014. He topped the ICC Test rankings in August 2014. He became the third player after Donald Bradman and Brian Lara to score six double centuries.
He achieved this feat on October 21, 2011 against Pakistan.
2009-10 India tour:
On this tour he is in great rhythm. He played two devastating innings of 6 off 36 balls and 59 off 31 balls. Although the series was drawn, he was selected as the best in the series.
2014 ICC World Twenty20:
In the final match of the tournament, he played an innings of 52 off 35 balls and 59 off 31 balls and managed to cross the easy boundary of 131 runs set by India to win Sri Lanka for the first time.
Personal life:
Kumar Sangakkara, the son of Kumari and Chokshanada Sangakkara, was born in 1966 in Matale, Sri Lanka. He completed his primary and secondary education at Trinity College, Candy. He regularly played cricket and tennis in school life. Leonard de Alois, the headmaster of the school, later advised his mother to concentrate on Sangakkara playing cricket.
He was the youngest of four brothers and two sisters. One of the brothers and one of the sisters wanted to see him as a tennis player. Sangakkara is married to his long-time girlfriend Yehali.
He is currently studying law at Sri Lanka Law College, following in his father's footsteps. Her father is Candy's top lawyer. On June 30, 2009, Sangakkara gave birth to twins, a daughter and a son.
