Sithulpawwa temple is one of my favorite places. Built by King Kavantissa, this shrine was formerly known as the "Chittala Pabbatha Viharaya''. Sithulpawwa Premises The monastery complex has the largest number of drip-lined caves in Sri Lanka. It is said that there are more than 100 caves inhabited by about 12,000 Arahants.

In 1909, archaeologist Henry Parker conducted research here. This is an enormous historical valuable place. There are many inscriptions from various periods from pre-Christian to about the sixth century which reveal the history of Sri Lanka.
Not only the kings of Ruhuna but also kings like Vasabha and Gajabahu who ruled the kingdom of Anuradhapura have given royal patronage to Sithulpawwa.
