1. What is meant by language? Define language in your own words.

steemline.png

Language is a vocal or scripted format of words structured in a manner to form a dialect for a specific set of people to ensure communication is being made and understood. Language is the core base of communication in the world today. without language understanding and activities can not be carried out.

Language can also be a sound or symbol you can think of as long as it is understood by a certain set of people and information is being passed across and understood among peers.

2.How language connects an individual to his family, glob or specific socieity.

One of the major distinguishing factors between humans and animals is our ability to communicate. Communication has been made possible because of the presence of language. There are millions of languages in the world ranging from small unpopular ones to vast and popular languages.

Every individual in a community is expected to communicate first as an infant to his family. the language is first learnt from the family as the parents tends to communicate with child from an infant stage. The ability of an individual to learn his language makes it easier to interact with first his family and the society at large.

For instance, if someone in Nigeria happens to meet his fellow Nigerian in another country, they both can speak their language and get to know each other faster than people who cannot speak the same language with them. so language creates room for togetherness and uniformity in living between an individual and his family or society.

3. Which is yours mother tongue? and which languages are spoken and understood in your home other than your mother tongue?

steemline.png

I am from Nigeria and my mother tongue is Igbo one of the major dialects among 250 others in Nigeria. The Igbo dialect is my mother tongue and I can speak it very very well. But regardless that in my house, the language spoken the most is the Igbo dialect, we are still able to speak and understand a few other languages in my country examples are the Ibibio and Hausa.

In general, among the languages understood by my family the second most spoken language in my house aside from the Igbo Language is the English language since my country is a native speaker of English.

4. How many languages do you know and how did you learn more than one language?

steemline.png

currently, I know about 3 languages at a pro-level and then 1 as a beginner. I was born in Jos which is in the northern part of Nigeria. Northern Nigeria speaks Hausa and because I found myself in their environment, I gradually was able to pick up the language to a pro-level.

I can also speak the Igbo Language fluently as this happens to be my mother tongue and from birth, it was our medium for communication. Lastly, in school, we were taught the English language as my country happens to be a native speaker.

5.In which language did you study in school to university and which language do you prefer in the education system in your country and why?

steemline.png

As I mentioned earlier the language that I used to study in school is the English language. from my primary down to my university days.

For me I would prefer the English language to be used in my country because my country is a multilinguistic country with over 500 languages, so the easiest way to bring about unity is to use the English Language in the educational system as this would also help us communicate and understand each other rather than attempt to learn 500 languages to communicate with everyone.

steemline.png

6. How one language or more than one languages plays an important role in the development of society.?

steemline.png

A society that speaks one language is more unified than one that speaks more than one. This is because when more than one language is spoken, the government has to enforce using a dominant language, which in turn causes division and distrust among its citizens. A unified society knows its ways of managing its individual differences since it has a common understanding through whatever language they speak. Whenever there is only one language to work with, society thrives!

My country is multilinguistic with over 500 languages and enforcing one out of 500 to be dominant will only be causing more problems than we already have currently. so I feel that despite we have many languages in our society, the usage of one language which is the English language helps to unite and brings us together.

7. How does culture relate to language?

Different cultures will have their own quirks and these will certainly be reflected in the language. One example of this is Igbo Culture which can give origins to particular words. Let's also consider typical foods with special names that create proverbs typically used within the language formed. Both aspects of the culture and language go hand-in-hand.

so definitely culture relates to language as it is the core difference between ethnic groups and makes them unique and lovely.

8. Would you like to prefer writing in your own language at the time of writing a post on steemit, if yes why and if not why not?

steemline.png

NO

My answer is NO because the Igbo language is my mother tongue and writing in the Igbo language will only reach out to quite a few numbers of the audience although we have google translate, it is not always 100% and can lead to misinformation.

steemline.png

9. If you want to promote your language in the world, how will you do it? and if you already done, then how much success have you achieved?

steemline.png

I love my language and I would really be glad if I hear everyone speaking my language. There are many ways to promote my language and I will be giving a few strategies on how I can go about that

  • Sensitization of my Culture
sensitization of my culture would be a great way to promote my language. we have discussed above that culture relates to the language being spoken by the society. So if the audience could appreciate the culture, it would help them gain interest in the language and strive to learn it.

  • Tutorials
After great sensitization about the culture, the next thing to do is to provide tutorial materials for those who are interested in learning as this would help them make gradual progress and appreciate the language more.

Very true when you're starting to say that humans are the ones to have the ability of communication in front other alive beings like animals, although they also have their particular system for generation ways to get related each other.

Thanks for stopping by to comment friend. I love your input

One of the major distinguishing factors between humans and animals is our ability to communicate.

This is a very true statement. But I do believe that even the animals have a way in which they communicate. It might be strange to us but I believe they do understand themselves with the sounds they make.

I learned from your post you are from Igbo land. We in Cameroon admire the Igbo people very much especially the business mindedness. I will love to one day learn the Igbo Language.

And to your point on culture helping to name foods. It is very true.

Thank you for this post and I wish you the best in the contest. You can also engage with me throughMy link
