CONTEST: Reading between the lines!

in Dream Steem10 months ago (edited)

Ever heard of 'Reading Between the Lines'?

I think I've never been very good at that. Sometimes yes, sometimes not so well.

It refers to the act of understanding or inferring implicit meanings from a conversation or text, often by interpreting subtle cues, hints, or implied messages within the content.

To improve my skills, I thought, how about creating a writing contest based on this phrase? ;))

Contest outline:

In this unique competition, I present you with a mysterious middle portion of a story. Your task is to craft a captivating beginning, weave along, and then create your own ending. And, of course, you don't have to read between the lines of my perspective – instead, weave your very own. 😉

So, are you ready to take upon this task?

Here comes your cue, somewhere in the middle portion of the story you will write:

...a little girl with two ponytails in a scarlet frock sits on a swing, the gentle creaking of chains in rhythm with her contemplative silence...

What led her to this moment? That's for you to decide. And what unfolds next? You're the maestro of this story – have fun with it!

You don't have to use this image as a prop. Feel free to use some other image or none at all.

Guidelines:

  • You're free to choose any genre – let your creativity flow!

  • You can slightly bend or mold my words (provided under the heading of middle portion of the proposal). Feel free to adjust the tense as needed.

  • Publish your posts in the Dream Steem community. The contest is open to all Steemians. Please remember to share the link to your publication in the comments under this post.

  • Use the tag #scarlet as the first among the others for your post/publication.

  • Submission deadline: 8:00 AM UTC, Saturday, 16th March 2024.

Judging Criteria:

Who am I to evaluate creative dreamers and writers like you? Nonetheless, entries will be assessed based on creativity, coherence, and originality, with bonus points awarded for ensuring a smooth transition from the provided middle lines to your created beginning and ending.

Prize:

To foster a competitive and engaging atmosphere, there will also be recognition for your efforts. It will be fun engaging with all of you. And, of course, there is an award for this as well.

The prize distribution will be as follows:

I will choose two winners, although there could be three. The first winner will receive 3 STEEM, and the runner-up(s) will get 2 and 1 STEEM, respectively.

I'll eagerly await each of you to step into my world and play with words. Unveil me in the light of your creation. Let everyone know why I'm sitting here all by myself – just a little girl in a scarlet dress, awaiting the magic of your imagination.

Yours,
@soulfuldreamer

Note: Amidst these glitches, rest assured that your contribution will be read. I'll be using an alternative interface, ensuring that each post is reviewed, and every author is engaged with. Please don't let your creativity go to waste because of this. Thank you :)

Just going to leave my two cents here... I have seen two really great submissions to this contest already and I have to say - what I love most is when a writer gets you completely consumed and enveloped in the story. I don't even know if what @weisser-rabe wrote was fact or fiction - but it did not matter - the story was so well written that it had me all emotional and rambling about my relating it to my own child and myself haha!

@o1eh also wrote a beautiful entry which spoke very loudly to my own story as a girl and all the things I have been through.

A lovely contest @soulfuldreamer :)

Thank you so much, dear. Can you believe all these entries arrived in almost the same time frame?

Choosing the winner becomes a challenge with each entry. I connect with every word, as if each story fits perfectly. Just when one stands out, another equally compelling one emerges.

I agree with you. So far, I am amazed at the quality of posts and contributions.

Thank you millions for dropping by. You made my day ♥️

Please keep dropping by now and then.

Love and regards.

It is a pleasure :) and obviously you got everybody's attention all at once :D Its a super contest idea, so not really surprising - and I am sure there will be many more still!

Rather you than meeee haha! Good luck!!! - but always great to see that a topic has successfully encouraged good writing!

Always a pleasure lovely! I am going to try and be around a lot more regularly now, so yay to that haha! I know I have said this before and failed epically at it... but if at first you don't succeed... ;)

Have a beautiful Tuesday @soulfuldreamer

Hi dear @soulfuldreamer, I saw your blogs and you are a good content creator. Would you please like to join us as a MOD in STEEM4BLOGGERS. It will be appreciated. Thanks

Hi there,

As much as I appreciate your offer, I will have to politely refuse. I won't be able to do this effectively as I am already a moderator in the Dream Steem community, and I'm a little busy in my personal life as well. Maybe some other time. Thank you for the offer and for liking my work.

I wish you success here in Steemit and in your life.

Regards and best wishes.

Ok dear no problem. I wish you more success.

Thank you so very much.
