Security problem with Cryptocurrency || Cryptojacking || @gbenga lesson 5
We cant be overprotective when it comes to the internet as there are people who are willing to steal people's digital assets even though there are people who work on keeping our digital assets secured. While there are people who look into getting our funds secured on the internet, there are people who steal these funds continually. With the rise in the adoption of cryptocurrency, these hackers have now decided to attack crypto wallets or maliciously get cryptocurrency from their victims.
Cryptocurrency has a few security problems and although some are self-inflicted by the users, they still are security problems that need to be attended to. As a holder of cryptocurrency, there are few pieces of advice spelled out for the safety of assets. These security warnings include;
- Keeping private keys private
- Do not save keys in browsers
- Use a two-factor authenticator for exchanges so as to keep your account safe
True, these warnings are very important but then, malicious actors will always find a way to game the system and make money to the detriment of others. A very good example of this is Cryptojacking.
Cryptojacking
The malicious mining of coins with other people's computing power. This can be done on devices such as desktops, laptops, smartphones, and so on. The aim is to mine coins without the knowledge of the device owner. The possibility of knowing that you are a victim of cryptojacking is very low as hackers use hidden software or scripts to do this and although you might not know you are a victim of cryptojacking, your devices will start doing the tellings are it will be overworking since its resources are stolen which will lead to fast draining of battery life and quick shutdown of the device, slow processing, and high heat emission.
Detecting and Finding Solution to Cryptojacking
One way cryptojackers get a system is via malware, malicious links in emails, cryptoiing code, web page, Javascript, and so on The cryptojacker gets control of the system and then starts to work for as long as the system is on. With high usage of CPU, finding a solution will be the right thing.
In other to find a solution of cryptojacking on your system, you could use the following solution
- Install an ad-blocking or anti-cryptomining extension on web browsers
- Use endpoint protection that can detect known crypto miners so as to tell when there is a mining software installed on your system
- Remove and avoid website-delivered scripts on your system.
Wow, While writing on security, you are at risk of losing your keys to a phishing link sent via comment. First, do not click on the link, the tactic used here is greed and if you aren't greedy, you should not lose your keys.
Security is quite important, and I must say that your security is in your hands.
