Steem daily Devotion: FOLLOW JESUS
Hello fellow steemians!! Thanks for stopping by for some edification time. It is actually morning for me on this side of the world. So I taught I share a little of God's word with you.
So I was actually meditating on the words of Jesus this morning, that is from Matt 16:24
Matthew 16:24 (KJV) Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
At first I taught following Jesus was just about a religious identification with my church and the Christian community. Going to church just felt good, all the good music and all that! I didnt know that following Christ was a whole process all together. But by the grace of God I was able to actually realise what it means to follow Jesus.
I will be sharing with you a series of amazing steps on how to follow Jesus effectively.
1. Self Denial.
It all starts with self denial. The willingness to purposeful deny yourself of everything that is contrary to the will of God no matter demanding that thing is. We've got to arrive at that point where the only thing that matters to us is the will of God. So if something is not inline with his Will for our Lives we have to become desciplined enough to cut it off.
Someone might say that is rather a difficult thing to do!! But the good news for such a person is that we have got the Holy Spirit who abides in our hearts and He empowers us to do the things we can't do by ourselves. For anything that is difficult we must learn to ask for his grace. As a christian fellowship with the Spirit of God is the sweetest thing you will ever enjoy. It is more cormforting, strengthening and benefiting than any friendship on the surface of the earth.
2. Take up your Corss
Your cross is simply your assignment and the persecution you recieve as a result of it. Jesus told us that persecution was going to eventually come. He told us that the world will not like us becuase they did not even know the Father or the one whom the Father had sent(speaking of himself). But however he also told us to CHEER UP, THAT HE HAS OVERCOMED THE WORLD.
I just want to encourage you out there! That no matter what your going through just cheer up for Jesus has overcomed the world, Hallelujah!!. Trust Him and set your eyes on Jesus. For in this present world the will be persecution, they will be trails, the will be tough times but we find shelter in his name. **Hang in there friend!Dont give up just yet; God is not done with you **.
3. FOLLOW JESUS
The real question is how do we actually follow this Jesus? It is simply by His word and His Spirit. The Psalmist declares that the word of God is a light to our path and a lamp to our feet.
Endeavour to study God's word daily and make it the standard for your Life
Secondly we follow Jesus by His Spirit that is in us. Apostle Paul declares that does who are led by the Spirit are the sons of God. Jesus himself said when the cormforter will come he will remind us of all his words. That is why even when we cannot see Jesus we still believe and have strong conviction in every word we study from his word or been proclaimed to us, becuase the Spirit of God in us gices us a testimony of Jesus.
The gift of God in you is very valuable and it is given for the primary aim to impact souls. Jesus said I came to seek and to save the Lost. And as Believers I urge you to put your primary objective as soul winning. Daniel said does who turn many to righteousness will be like the that stars shine bright.
