Photo Contest week #39 - Memories with Dad. Stories and Memories

Introduction

This past few months in Nigeria, we have celebrated Mother’s Day like three different times. Father’s Day is celebrated just once. So, this contest is giving me the opportunity to celebrate my dad on such a wonderful day.

Before going further, I’ll like to invite @benson6 @gbenga01 and @ameh123 to participate in this contest

If someone had ever told me that I would love my dad this much, I would never have believed it. That man really flogged the hell out of me. My dad was the person the Bible was describing when it said, “spare the rod and spoil the child.”

Growing up, I never liked my dad for a second. I can’t blame him now because I was very stubborn, and Nigerian parents believe that the only way they can reset your brain to factory settings is by flogging you. Thank God for my late mum, who always came between us to pacify my dad’s anger whenever he was beating me.

But despite all that, those beatings I had growing up also helped shape my life. My dad wasn’t really a stay-at-home dad because of his work. He was always on the move, but we expected him every weekend with lots of goodies for us. I think that was his way of bribing us after giving us a thorough beating for misbehaving.

Flashbacks of those amazing ice creams he bought for us as kids were enough to melt any anger we had back then. Once in a while, he would take us out to his favorite place, “Zena Motel,” to have a good time. We spent the whole weekend there with our parents before coming back.

Now, we’re all grown up. He now discusses things with us, laughs, and even cracks jokes with us. We now have to look after him. I almost dropped out of school due to financial constraints, but he went all out to get that money for me. The passing away of our mum made us see a totally different side of our dad.

When my dad later remarried, I thought all the love was going to move to his new wife and kid, but he still looks out for us and calls once in a while to know how we’re faring. There was a time my dad was so sick because of high blood pressure. I was so scared. Seeing my dad in such a state, where he couldn’t even move from his bed, made me shed tears. But I’m glad, he’s very strong and healthy now.

Tomorrow happens to be Father’s Day, and I want to use this opportunity to tell him how much I love him and how the discipline he imbibed in me has helped me in life. I pray for long life for him. He needs to enjoy my money and also carry a grandson from me. So, he’s going nowhere. May God bless you.

Happy Father’s Day, Daddy.

¡Holaaa amigo!😊

I guess that's pretty much the opposite of my father-daughter story...

Yeah… I have a feeling that your dad must have stayed in Africa or within Africa neighborhood in Germany cos of his strict nature. But I’m still waiting for the part of your story, were you will tell us, somewhere along the line, he changed as you became adult..

Hello @sbamsoneu, your father did have a strong character because he hit you a lot and I imagine how stubborn you were, that your father hit you, how good your father after he died your mother remarried and did not forget about you .

This is great, your dad is handsome , just keep the fire of the love on....I joined u to wish him a sweet father's day.
