Saludos a todos los usuarios de esta distinguida comunidad. Para esta semana 9 de la iniciativa Arte y Escritura les traemos al destacado pintor Willard Leroy Metcalf.

Metcalf nació en Lowell, Massachusetts, el 1 de julio de 1858.

A los 17 años se matriculó en el Lowell Institute School of George Loring Brown para cursar estudios artísticos. Fue uno de los primeros becarios de la escuela del Museo de Bellas Artes de Boston.

Entre los años 1883 y 1887 viajó a París, Inglaterra, Argelia y Túñez, interrelacionándose con artistas plásticos de otras latitudes.

En 1888 regresó a Estados Unidos e hizo su primera exposición en St. Botolph Club de Boston. En 1891 fue contratado como profesor de arte en el Cooper Institute.

A partir de 1903 se inclinó hacia el tema paisajístico, adoptando el estilo impresionista académico.

Fue miembro de la Colonia Artística de Old Lyme (Connecticut) y miembro fundador del grupo Ten American Painters.

El artista tenía serios problemas con el alcohol y a los 66 años murió a causa de un infarto, en Nueva York, el 9 de marzo de 1925.

A continuación les presentaremos tres de sus obras para que usted escoja la que más los motive a escribir. La primera se llama: "My wife and daughter"(1917-1918; la segunda, "Old woman with child and goose" (1884-1885) y la tercera "The ballet dancers aka the dressing room" (1885).

Greetings to all users of this distinguished community. For this week 9 of the Art and Writing initiative we bring you the outstanding painter Willard Leroy Metcalf.

Metcalf was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, on July 1, 1858.

At the age of 17, he enrolled at the Lowell Institute School of George Loring Brown to study art. He was one of the first fellows at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts school.

Between the years 1883 and 1887 he traveled to Paris, England, Algeria and Tunisia, interacting with plastic artists from other latitudes.

In 1888 he returned to the United States and had his first exhibition at the St. Botolph Club in Boston. In 1891 he was hired as a professor of art at the Cooper Institute.

From 1903 he leaned towards the landscape theme, adopting the academic impressionist style.

He was a member of the Old Lyme (Connecticut) Art Colony and a founding member of the Ten American Painters group.

The artist had serious problems with alcohol and at the age of 66 he died of a heart attack in New York.
