Greetings to all the Steemites of the world, lovers of art and writing. We have reached the 110th edition. For this one, we will have a woman as our guest, Artemisa Gentileschi:

This outstanding artist was born on July 8, 1593, in Rome (Italy). She was the daughter of the painter Orazio Gentileschi (1563-1639) and Prudentia Monotone Gentileschi.

Her father was her teacher and guide, who also sought to connect her with other plastic artists so that she could learn from them.

When Artemisia was 18, the painter Agostino Tassi, a friend of her father, raped her. He promised to cleanse her honor by marrying her. But since he was already married, he did not keep his word. Documents from this legal process are preserved. Artemisia narrated the sexual cruelties to which she was subjected by Tassi. And this personal fact was decisive in the development of her works, in which female characters abound, who are shown to be self-confident and capable of murdering men who harm them physically and emotionally.

Once Tassi's crime was proven, he was exiled on November 29, 1612. Artemisia then married the painter Pierantonio de Vicenzo. It was a marriage arranged by Artemisia's father.

Artemisia was the first woman to become a member of the Florence Academy of Drawing.

Between 1638 and 1641 she was hired with her father to work in England, under the protection of Charles I of England.

In 1642 she returned to Naples and died there in 1653.

Here are three of her works so that you can choose the one you like best to write about. The first is titled Susanna and the Elders (1610), the second, Judith Beheading Holofernes (1614-20) and the third Samson and Delilah (1630-38).
