El invitado de esta semana es John Atkinson Grimshaw.

Atkinson nació el 6 de septiembre de 1836 en Leeds (Reino Unido). Se casó en el año 1856 con su prima lejana Frances Hubbard (1835-1917). En el año 1861 decidió dedicarse por completo a la pintura, y abandonó el trabajo que tenía en el Great Northern Railway. Esto disgustó mucho a sus padres.

Recibió el apoyo de la "Sociedad Filosófica y Literaria de Leeds" para realizar su primera exposición pictórica en el año 1862. En esta exhibió obras en las que destacaban aves, flores y frutos.

Para el año 1870 contaba con reconocimientos artísticos, ya que sus obras eran muy cotizadas; esto le permitió alquilar una mansión del siglo XVII, en Knostrop Old Hall, la cual convirtió en su residencia hasta el día de su muerte el 31 de octubre de 1893.

En sus obras destacan los paisajes con toques realistas y luminosos; escenas de personas ubicadas en suburdios de Londres, así como en sus muelles.

This week's guest is John Atkinson Grimshaw.

Atkinson was born on September 6, 1836 in Leeds (United Kingdom). He married his distant cousin Frances Hubbard (1835-1917) in 1856. In 1861 he decided to dedicate himself completely to painting, and abandoned the job he had on the Great Northern Railway. This greatly upset his parents.

He received support from the "Leeds Philosophical and Literary Society" to hold his first painting exhibition in 1862. In this he exhibited works that featured birds, flowers and fruits.

By 1870 he had artistic recognition, since his works were highly valued; This allowed him to rent a 17th century mansion, in Knostrop Old Hall, which he made his residence until the day of his death on October 31, 1893.

In his works, landscapes with realistic and luminous touches stand out; scenes of people located in London suburbs, as well as on its docks.
