ACT OF KINDNESS - FREE THINGS FROM THE NEIGHBORHOOD

in Steem4Bloggers9 months ago

Magandang Araw, Steemians!

Today, I wanna share with you how kind people are specifically in our neighborhood. It is a social media page that named, BUY NOTHING, where people can share in the page for things they want to get rid of that is still in good condition, for free! Yes, it's for free! And people in need of something can ask as well if the community has anything they want to give away.

But before I dig into the main purpose of this post, I wanna tell you first my thoughts especially when I was a kid, and watching those American show before I came to States.

First, I thought the people here does not eat left overs. Very funny, because when I arrived here, I learned that most people cooked food and save most of it for the next meals. Now, I'm actually doing this as well. Next, that they don't wear or buy second hand clothings and toys, but hey, this is very common here. People even exchange their clothes and toys in the retail store for another things or clothing. And lastly, that we get a lot of things even food, all for free!

Going Back to Topic

Buy Nothing page gives hope to those in need and cannot provide to their families. I have learned about this when one of my Filipino friends told me that she got most of her furniture in the page. She said, I just have to ask if I need something and peole who has it would love to share whenever they have an extra.

I immediately subscribed to it and was in looked out for toys for my toddler. Then yes, someone posted to give a way a bunch of toys and anyone can pick up whatever they need. First come, first get. And since I was not the first one to messaged the owner, I was not able to get most of it but luckily I got the desk with the seat, baby playmat and kitchen toys. We exchanged details for the address and time to pick-up.

My daughter loves the toys we got for her especially the learning table with seat. It is musical and she learns the alphabet and counting 1 to 10 at the age of 2. She also use it for eating while watching educational videos and even for sitting.

Aside from the first set of toys we got for free, we also have these nice stuffs for my daughter. These are expensive toys and no way for us to afford if we buy them in stores even a second hand just because it's not (toys) in our budget. The pink car that she could drive and the big bike that she really love. It was like 2 months she wants dad to buy her a bike and luckily we got one for free.

Toys and toys, all of these on the floor, we got all for free from our neighborhood. I am happy that I am able to provide her these things which she could enjoy knowing that she does not always play with other kids unlike when we were still in the Philippines.

I wish we have this kind of act in my country, or if there is, i wish a lot of people engage to it. For sure, after our stay here, we would give away most of our kids toys and clothes to the families in need here. Only if I can send a lot of these things to my relatives for free, I would gladly do it. Sending balikbayan box takes 3 months to arrive to destination and its not cheap.

All for now, I am inviting @abby0207 @bisayakalog @sweetspicy to share stories about act of kindness here.

See you then!
