Aparan Town and Medieval Castle
Hello dear friends. My name is Naira and I am from Armenia. In my previous post I talked about our visit to the historical sites of Armenia with my friend. The next day of the same tour, we set off towards Aparan town. Here, there is a very beautiful alphabet monument. The next place we visited was a monument dedicated to the Armenian alphabet. There were only two buses that day, so it wasn't crowded. The monument was created in 2005 in honor of the 1600th anniversary of the Armenian alphabet. The creator of the alphabet is depicted in stone along with his students. Initially, the alphabet consisted of 36 letters but was later modified by adding three more. The primary purpose of the Armenian alphabet was to enable the translation of the Bible into Armenian so that knowledge could reach the people.
We also made a visit to a village: Artashalan village. Entry was free, with only a sleeping dog keeping watch. It wasn't crowded here either.
While at it, we couldn't miss seeing the medieval fortress located at an altitude of 2100 meters. There's only one road leading there and it winds through mountain passes. The fortress becomes inaccessible in winter but during summer, many tourists come here to enjoy the stunning views. The entrance fee is 1500 dram per person (approximately $4) and if you want to use a drone for filming, you'll need an additional ticket for 5000 dram (around $13).
The history of this fortress dates back to the 7th century. It changed hands, was destroyed and rebuilt many times over the years. Eventually, the fortress was abandoned and today, only the church remains perfectly preserved.
That's all for today, dear friends. We really enjoyed visiting these places. My friend was especially thrilled because he's a history enthusiast. I can say I had a wonderful day off. I can't always take time off because I work at a hotel. Sometimes, we have busy days and work from morning to evening. On such days, I've often daydreamed about these beautiful trips. I hope I'll have the chance to travel and share more with you.
Naira
