On the morning of August 17th, I woke up with high spirits. Today was the celebration of the independence of the Republic of Indonesia, and the carnival in my small town would be a moment not to be missed. After breakfast, I took my camera and checked its batteries—all ready to capture every precious moment.

Early in the morning, we gathered at the carnival location, and the colorful atmosphere captivated us. Hundreds of people gathered in festive costumes—some dressed as national heroes, others wore traditional clothes from various regions in Indonesia. Not to forget, we also dressed up in red-and-white costumes, a symbol of our pride as Indonesians.

The carnival started with a bang. Drum band accompaniment, traditional dances, and various stage attractions entertained us throughout the journey. I was fascinated to see the parade of decorated floats, full of flowers and red and white flags. Each group in the carnival had its own creativity in showing their pride in their homeland.

Along the route, the townspeople stood on the side of the road, enthusiastically watching and cheering. I also cheered them on by waving small flags and shouting "Merdeka!" with my friends. It felt like the whole town was united in celebrating this historic day.

As the parade reached its end, we paused to enjoy the various Indonesian culinary delights sold at the surrounding stalls. We sampled satay, rendang, and traditional cakes while chatting about our favorite moments during the carnival.
