Black Pepper Farm in Cambodia 🇰🇭 10% to Steem-Travelers Community, Steemexclusive

in Steem-Travelers3 years ago

Once upon a time... when the world didn't know covid-19 and people could travel freely... [laughter in the audience, shouts "liar!"] ... at that time, I traveled to Cambodia, a town called Kampot. A great place for those who have no reason to hurry.

No, this is not the prettiest town on earth but it is relatively neat, calm, and safe which is unusual for poor Cambodia. A laid-back destination for sipping cocktails for a week or two for those who lost the idea why they should move futher.

There is a list of things to do in the city and around it and one of them is visiting black pepper farms.

10% of this post's rewards will go to the community account of Steem-Travelers. Let's grow the first Steemit community for true travelers together! 🙂

There are many black pepper farms in Kep district, 20-30 km away from Kampot. To cross that distance, you need to rent a motorbike (4-5$ for 24h), this is the cheapest and most convenient option, there is no public transportation there.

I chose Sothy's Pepper Farm (on the google.map).

A decent highway Kampot - Kep turns into a dirt road meandering in the countryside but, thanks to google.maps, it was easy to find the place.

That certain farm didn't ask for fees and even provided a volunteer to guide me through that place.

These volunteers (from workaway.com) stayed there for free and even had free food and, in exchange, helped the farm with visitors and agriculture tasks.

I listened to a story the volunteer must have told me and, then, politely asked that guy to leave me 😁 since I wanted to thoughtfully take images of the plants "if possible".

This is how black pepper grows. The taste of these green peppercorns are the same but they can fit some dishes better than black pepper powder.

They collect green peppercorns and dry them in a special barn and, soon, they have what we all know:

Kampot black pepper is a certified geographical indication product since there is a perfect climate and unique soil in that region as well as the centuries-old tradition. It is purchased by restaurants and retailers from all over the world.

I invite @petface and @brittilicious to join the community Steem-Travelers and the contest.

All photos were taken by me with Nikon D750 and Nikkor lenses.

Fantastic post, thank you for sharing!

I have never seen pepper growing, although while traveling by Latin America have seen "fake pepper" trees with the fruits of the very same taste.

I'd love to see it, although not knowing how to ride the bike, I'd probably have to make a trekking to get in there.

this post is plagiarism-free

(and is really cool 😁)

PS: I have a question about the first picture. Although post is plagiarism-free and all the photos does not give any results in searcher, the first picture is copyrighted. Can u prove that it's yours or change it, please?

Thank you! :)

Cycling is also a way to reach the place. I guess it is possible to rent a bicycle in Kampot or Kep.
Have you been to Southeast Asia?

The first picture was sold through photo agencies. I would trust Alamy, a famous photography agency:

https://www.alamy.com/streets-of-kampot-old-town-image178954574.html

My name is written there - David Bokuchava

Some other sites from the list:

https://theculturetrip.com/asia/cambodia/articles/a-two-week-travel-itinerary-to-cambodia/

https://www.thailandblog.nl/reisverhalen/kampot-een-pareltje-in-cambodja/

my name on the both pages. Most other pages will have the same name mentioned.

Someone can say maybe this is not my name ... But, in that case, I systematically steal from the same person :) My post with photos by David Bokuchava:

And, to close the case, I can write something, for example, on Alamy page of David Bokuchava:

I added "Steem-Travelers rule!" on https://www.alamy.com/portfolio/david-bokuchava :)

:=)

seems that you steal from this great photographer David Bokuchava for eons :))))
just kidding!

Все может быть ;)

Perfect! Thank you very much for understanding and proving you are the author of the photo. There is no doubts it's yours :)

Cycling could work :)

Nope. The only country from Asia I have ever visited was Oman. After leaving Europe I focused on South America. I would gladly explore other continents but currently I'm stuck. Few more months and hopefully I'll be able to travel again.

Oman is not the most visited place so I like your pick.

Never been to Americas, would be great to be there once... Asia is more explored by travelers, probably, but much cheaper.

I am stuck in Russia. Thinking about going to somewhere but ...everything is locked in South and Southeast Asia currently :( Maybe Eastern Europe but ...winter is coming. :(

Nice write-up by you @datych when I saw your number 6 picture, I thought is a picture of a plant I had in my garden. Only to read about it. It has resemblance. Thanks for sharing. #traveler-says

I’ve not been to a pepper farm and thanks to you I now know where the best black pepper originates from 🇰🇭Lately at home I started mixing black and pink peppercorns for even better taste 😋
