Corn plant pests. (2 January 2025)
Assalamu alaikum
How are you friends? I hope everyone is well. I am fine too, Alhamdulillah.
Today I present to you a new blog.
I'm @romzan15 from #bangladesh
Look at what the insect is doing.
If you have done such harm to someone, you can use these.
If maize plants are being damaged by stem borers, immediate action is needed to control the problem. Follow these steps to address the issue:
1. Cultural Control
Collect and burn the infested plants and leaves immediately.
Clear the field of weeds and crop residues after harvesting.
Practice crop rotation by planting alternative crops instead of maize.
2. Biological Control
Use beneficial insects like Trichogramma to control the stem borers.
Set up pheromone traps in the field to attract and capture pests.
3. Chemical Control
Use approved insecticides, such as:
Carbaryl 50% WP (Sevin): Mix 2 grams per liter of water and spray.
Chlorpyrifos 20% EC: Mix 2-3 ml per liter of water and spray.
Apply sprays in the morning or late afternoon, and repeat after 7-10 days if needed.
4. Organic Control
Apply neem oil or neem extract.
Mix 5 ml of neem oil per liter of water and spray it on the plants.
5. Monitoring and Maintenance
Regularly monitor the field and take action at the early stages of infestation.
Use balanced fertilizers to keep the plants healthy and resistant to pests.
By implementing these methods, you can effectively manage stem borers and protect your maize crop.
Reasons for corn plants drying up
There are several reasons why maize plants may dry up. The main causes are as follows:
- Lack of Adequate Water
Maize plants require regular and sufficient water. If the soil becomes too dry, the plants may wither.
- Nutrient Deficiency
Maize plants need proper amounts of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. A deficiency in these nutrients can cause the leaves to turn yellow and dry out.
- Pests and Diseases
Leaf Blight: Brown spots appear on the leaves, which gradually dry out.
Stem Borer: These pests bore into the stem, weakening the plant.
- Unfavorable Environmental Conditions
Extreme heat or cold can hinder the growth of maize plants, causing them to dry up.
- Soil and Irrigation Problems
If the soil's pH is imbalanced, maize plants may be affected.
Waterlogging can cause the roots to rot, leading to the plant drying out.
Remedies:
1. Ensure regular irrigation, but avoid waterlogging.
2. Use organic and chemical fertilizers to provide adequate nutrients.
3. Apply approved fungicides and pesticides to control diseases and pests.
4. Regularly remove weeds from the field.
5. Test the soil quality and maintain the appropriate pH level.
If the problem persists, consult your local agricultural office for further assistance.
May everyone be well until today, may Allah protect them.
