Getting to improve your writing ✍️

Improving your writing skills requires a lot of work and a lot of effort, but in my opinion, it's one of the worthiest things you can do for yourself.

Not only can you use this new acquired skills in your work life, but also it'll make you feel way confident when it comes to writing down your own ideas and letting others shar ea bit of your world as well. Getting to develop skills in something as easy as writing is can be completelly challenging, so are you up for it?

Consistency 📚

As almost everything in life, it's all about consistency.

What should you be consistent with? Try to read at least one or two paragraphs of any sort of writing that you want, whether it's an essay, a short story or just some random article you found on the internet. By reading every single day, you let your imagination grow and you start incorporating different grammar structures and words to your vocabulary.

Explore new authors, read about things you find interesting... everything's a good idea when it comes to broadening your mind and finding your own style.

As well as this, the only way you've got to improve at writing is, well, actually writing. No news here, lol. Sometimes it gets really frustrating not to create what we had in mind, but we should always know that it's all a process. We're not always going to be inspired or feel like writing, but that's when we need it the most.

So, now you already know:

At first, keep it simple ✒️

When you're a starter, it might be a good idea to keep things simple. What's this about? Try not to get twisted into complex words and structures that you're not used to. The most important thing is that you have a clear idea in your mind about the message you want to deliver and then, let the creative process begin.

Also, by keeping things simple also bare in mind to create sentences and paragraphs that are not that long. You will get to master "long sentences" afterwards, but in the beginning it might be something hard to deal with. Of course, this doesn't mean to create simple and unconnected sentences, like this:

I went to my sister's home. She was there. We spent a while together. I told her what was up with my life. She told me she had a fantastic week. We had a nice time.

You can always make your writing more interesting by adding connectors and propositions that allow you to give some sort of twist to your ideas:

Today I went to my sister's house to spend a while with her. We spent a lovely time together as we cought up with each other's lives.

See? No big changes, but it makes it a bit more natural to read and to keep the reader engaged!

It's all about a catchy title 📝

I believe that this is one of the most difficult parts when it comes to writing: giving your creation a title.

At first, my recommendation when it comes to titles is that you leave it till the end. Just make sure to write as much as you want, to get your idea delivered in a clear way and then... you decide the title, whether it's a story or an article.

How to make it interesting? It's hard at first, but it's something that you start to get better at as well. Of course, there are a couple of tips that can help you, such as:

• Do not give a lot of information, sometimes shorter titles are way better than longer ones.
• Think about what would make the reader interested and intrigued
• If you're writing an article, sometimes it's good to start by including a question!
• Short story? Alright, just choose a couple of words very carefully about what represents you creation the best

Do not abuse of certain resources 📝

It's really easy to get lost into the creative process (and I love it), but sometimes it's better to write just a certain amount of words or sentences and then start reviewing what you did. Quality content before quantity, always bear that in mind!

We tend to overuse (and misuse, most of the time) resources like:

• Ellipsis (...)
• Dialogues: It's ok to show some interaction between characters, but don't abuse of this, specially if you're not including dialogues in the proper way. I'll make another post related to this!
• Including words that we're not that sure what they mean or include fillers (like, for instance, just, really, etc)

Cómo mejorar tu escritura✍️

Mejorar tu escritura requiere de un montón de trabajo y esfuerzo, pero, en mi opinión, es una de las mejores cosas que puedes hacer por tí mismo.

No sólo puedes utilizar esta habilidad adquirida para tu vida profesional, sino que también te hará sentir más cómodo al momento de plantear tus ideas y hacerle a otros saber qué es lo que piensas. Desarrollar habilidades en algo tan sencillo como escribir puede ser increíblemente difícil y desafiante, pero estás dispuesto a hacerlo?

Consistencia 📚

Como todo en la vida, todo se trata de ser consistente.

¿Con qué deberías ser consistente? Intenta habituarte a leer al menos uno o dos párrrafos por día de cualquier tipo de escrito, artículo o cuento que encuentres interesante. Al leer todos los días, independientemente si se trata de un ensayo, un artículo o un cuento corto, empiezas a interiorizar nuevas estructuras que por ahí no tenías presentes o, mismo, tu vocabulario comienza a mejorar.

Explora nuevos autores, lee acerca de cosas que encuentres interesantes... todo es una gran idea cuando se trata de ampliar y desafiar tu mente, así como encontrar tu propio estilo.

También, la única forma de mejorar tu escritura es, obviamente, escribiendo. Sí, no inventé la pólvora jaja. A veces resulta realmente frustrante no poder plasmar en letras lo que teníamos en mente o lo que teníamos ganas de escribir, pero en esos momentos es que más necesitamos sentarnos y practicar. No siempre vamos a estar inspirados o a tener ganar, pero es un ejercicio de todos los días.

Así que ahora lo sabes:

Al principio, haz las cosas simples ✒️

Cuando recién te encuentras comenzando, puede ser una buena idea de mantener todo lo más simple que puedsa.¿Qué significa esto? Intenta no enredarte en palabras confusas o complejas y en estructuras a las que no estés acostumbrado. Lo más importante es que tengas en tu mente una idea clara y que sepas qué tipo de mensaje quieres transmitir, luego es momento de dejar que comience el proceso creativo.

También, al mantener todo lo más sencillo posible, intenta crear oraciones y párrafos que no sean más largos que lo necesario. El arte de poder llevar "oracines largas" se desarrolla con el tiempo, pero si estás dando tus primeros pasos, es mejor no enroscarse. Por supuesto, esto no significa crear oraciones de esta índole:

Visité a mi hermana. Estaba en su casa. Estuvimos un rato juntas. Le conté cuáles eran las novedades de mi vida. Me contó que tuvo una gran semana. La pasamos muy lindo.

Siempre puedes hacer que tu escrito sea un poco más interesante agregando proposiciones y conectores que te permitan darle un giro a tus ideas.

Hoy visité a mi hermana y pasamos un rato juntas. Fue una tarde muy agradable en la que charlamos cómo estuvo nuestra semana y nos comentamos las novedades que teníamos.

¿Ves? No hay grandes cambios, pero hace que la lectura sea un poco más natural y que el lector también se mantenga entretenido.

Títulos atrapantes 📝

Creo que esta es una de las cosas más difíciles de desarrollar cuando se trata de escribir: ponerle un título a tu creación.

Mi recomendación inicial es que el título sea lo último que hagas. Asegúrate de desarrollar tu escrito de la forma en la que te gusta, que tu idea haya sido planteada con claridad... y luego, una vez que estás seguro y conforme, decides el título. Por más que sea un cuento corto o un artículo.

¿Cómo es posible hacerlo más interesante? En principio, es díficil, pero hay algunos tips que pueden ayudarte:

• No brindes un montón de información, a veces los títulos largos hacen que perdamos el interés
• Intenta hacer que el lector se sienta intrigado
• Si estás escribiendo un artículo, es una gran idea incluir una pregunta
• Se trata de un cuento corto? Siempre trata de elegir unas pocas palabras que reflejen tu creación de forma resumida

No abusar de ciertos recursos 📝

Es realmente fácil perderse en el proceso creativo (y me encanta), pero a veces es mejor escribir un determinado número de frases u oraciones y comenzar a revisar qué fue lo que hiciste. Es mejor publicar contenido de calidad antes que una cantidad exhuberante, siempre tenlo presente!

Tendemos a hacer abuso y un uso incorrecto de recursos literarios como:

• Puntos suspensivos (...)
• Diálogos: Está bien demostrar interacción entre tus personajes, pero no hagas un abuso de esto, especialmente si no estás planteandolos de la forma que es correcto hacerlo. Ya haré una publicación acerca de esto!
• Incluir palabras de las que no estamos seguros qué significan o los famosos "filles" (por ejemplo, que, tipo, etc)

Esta es la primera parte de lo que espero que sea una serie de publicaciones interesantes acerca de cómo mejorar la escritura!
No soy experta en este tema, pero sí es una de las cosas que más me gusta hacer y participé de varios talleres literarios que me ayudaron muchísimo, por lo que realmente espero que sea de utilidad para alguien!
