Wednesday Walk - Time of the Super Moon and New Feathered Friends

in ART LOVERS5 years ago

Mother Nature has been giving us some milder days this week with the Super Moon. I hope that adage that the weather you experience at the time of the full moon is what you can expect for the next while. I can do with warmer weather although it also bought a lot of snow which I could do without!

I'll be sticking pretty close to the yard for this walk with some views of the snowy pine meadow behind our house and all the activity of the birds which has bought some new feathered friends to the bird feeder. And of course I'll be sharing some photos of the super moon. Traditionally it was called the "Worm" Full Moon but I think that applies for more southern regions for it will be quite some time before the ground thaws here and the earthworms start moving around!

With these warmer days and colder nights it has been perfect for creating icicles off our sun room!

As we head in the opposite direction then I usually take for my Wednesday walk, we will enter the pine meadow behind our house. The snow beautifully accented the designs of the numerous branches.

After a snowfall the sun came out and with the warmer weather the birds became really active - Listen in to call of a flock of blue jays plus a few other bird calls and view the beautiful snowy pines...

I had a few new birds come visit our yard - one I hadn't seen here before was a white breasted nuthatch. I had seen the red-breasted nuthatch, which I posted about here

One other visitor who I don't often see at the feeder was the grey jay. I managed to get a shot of it before it took off.

Me and Bruno had went out in the later part of the afternoon to see if the Super Moon might be rising early so we could get some shots over the open field at the end of our lane.

We had no luck seeing the full moon just coming up over the horizon and had to wait until dark when I saw it rising among the spruce and maple trees. It was magical!

When zooming in for a closer look I found the bright full moon made an excellent backdrops for the branch silhouettes.

And finally a close up view of the Super "Worm" Full Moon as I zoom in to show some of the details on the moon's surface.

Thanks for bestowing such beauty to a worm such as I ;)

Great Wednesday Walk post, @porters! I love the shots of the full moon with the silhouettes.

Fantastic moon photos! I have white-breasted nuthatches regularly, and the red-breasted are the occasional visitors in my yard. Interesting. Those squawking Jay's are really creating a ruckus! Thanks for posting to #featheredfriends! ❤️. !tip

I think the red-breasted nuthatch like the coniferous forest areas more so it is more common here but it is the first time I saw a white breasted one here!Glad you enjoyed the shots! Thanks for the tip!

Congratulations @porters!

Birds becoming active with warmer weather, lovely to hear what they sound like. Icicles hanging so low another great feature to display how cold it still is up North.

Full moon was a treat one night prior, clouded over on the actual night down here, no photography this time with telephone lines in the way of decent photo's.

Have a wonderful day.

Lots of great photos in this post! Bruno's a good boy, and it looks like he's enjoying sitting on the snow. :) I haven't seen nuthatchers before. A beautiful bird, but aren't they all? Congrats on the rally upvote!

Great shots of the super moon.

Always nice to see a new bird come to your feeder.

Bruno looks like he is waiting patiently for you to finish shooting the moon. 😂
