In what appears to be a first for the American government, the U.S. Department of State is offering to pay a cryptocurrency bounty worth up to $10m (315BTC at the time of writing) in return for actionable intelligence about cyberattacks orchestrated by foreign governments.

Whilst the article says this is the first time for the American government, it probably is the first of its kind in the world too.

Personally I have not come across any government doing so in the past.

This announcement can also be construed as the strongest endorsement of cryptocurrencies by any government so far.

This offer automatically increases the stakes for the government that is trying to sabotage the U.S. These offending governments are likely to have engaged a group of cyber experts, working in teams, for the task. To keep these teams in check, now these offending governments have to offer each one of the team members at least the equivalent sum of reward in cryptocurrencies to avoid breach of confidentiality.

That is going to be expensive and tough unless these cyber experts are hardcore patriots who would not budge for any kind of rewards.

These offending countries, in response to this announcement, are likely to also increase and fortify the surveillance of their cyber experts.

I use to think the years of despicable espionage of nation's against one another died with USSR .

This humongous bounty offer is an eye opener for me and many of my kinds that competition between nations may never ebb nor end !

Nevertheless, I am elated that Cryptos ate warming themselves , albeit surreptitiously into the official boardrooms of corporations and Governments !

Kudos to encrypted , digital means of exchange!
