Qualities of a good manager

As a recently retired corporate manager from a top multinational, I am here to discuss how we divide top corporate managers.

  
We divide them into four categories but everyone has the same responsibilities, take their teams along, and motivate the team members to work better by setting an example. The four most common types are top-level managers, middle managers, first-line managers, and team leaders. These roles differ not only in their day-to-day responsibilities but also in their broader function in the organization and the type of employees they manage.

I have worked in the corporate sector starting as a sales engineer and working in different capacities as regional manager, deputy GM marketing, and as project manager marketing and service provider in different countries in various multinational companies.

This is not common, but you will meet people working in the corporate world, who always find them badmouthing their manager. They are never happy with their manager, and they always talk about beating him. That is one of the worst ways to manage a badly managed team.

However, this does not happen everywhere because managers at many companies know how to manage their teams. But a good manager has some special qualities, qualities that make him different from others. A good manager must have these qualities.

Qualities of a Good Manager

Keep the team together and listen to all opinions right from top to bottom. A good manager never walks alone, rather, he takes the team along. That is, he always gives equal value to his team in every small and big project. The manager makes them feel how important his team is to him and that by staying together, they can do every task easily.

A good manager focuses on growth

A good manager works for the growth of his team along with himself. When a person in the team does a good job and the manager supports him, gets him promoted, or increases his salary, then this is a sign of a good manager.

A good manager gives credit to the team

It is usually seen that the team completes the work and the manager takes the credit, but a good manager never does this. He always tries to give credit to his team. A perfect manager never hesitates saying that his team has done an excellent job. He gives the credit to all team members instead of taking the credit himself. Apart from this, when some work goes wrong, he supports his team by taking responsibility himself and telling his team how we can fix it together and give better results.

A good manager is a good friend to all team members

A good manager is a good friend, and if he is not a good friend, then he can never become a good manager. Talking about the personal problems of the people in his team, solving them, participating in the programs of colleagues, making them sit as equals, and giving them value is the sign of a good friendly manager and every good manager should have this quality.

A good manager understands the emotions of his team

It is said that when you go to the corporate world, you should put aside your emotions because they have no place here. A good manager always understands the emotions of his team members. He tries to understand that his team has worked, but the work is not complete. Respecting the feelings of your colleagues, giving them leave when necessary, and respecting their personal lives is a sign of a good manager.

A good manager is not all about work

It is not that a manager can become better only by working, rather, a good manager also spends quality time with his team. When the team does a good job or achieves a target, he should party with them, giving credit to the team. On that day, he should behave with them like a common man instead of a manager. In such a situation, relationships become stronger, and the team's respect for their manager increases.

A good manager proves to his team that he stands with them in every difficulty and is willing to work together. Apart from this, he is the one who improves relationships along with work and always respects the people in his team.
