I am here to take part in SEC | S20W4: "ROLE OF AGRICULTURE IN THE ECONOMY by Steem Agro and invite my friends @abdullahw2 @pea07 and @josepha to participate.

I would love to explain the social and industrial roles of agriculture in our country, sighting one of the main grown crops. We have different crops like wheat, rice, sugarcane, tea, cotton, etc. are the major products in India so I will give you a little of them all. However, wheat and rice are the main crops that feed not only the Indians but a major percentage of the world's population.

Agriculture plays an important role in the Indian economy, as almost sixty percent of the Indian population is involved in agriculture. We can say agriculture is the biggest sector of employment for us Indians; therefore, it is called the backbone of the Indian economy. Let me add that food produced in Indian agriculture feeds almost twenty percent of the world's total population. That should explain my point about what the agriculture sector means to the Indian and the world economies.

In India, wheat and rice are the major agricultural products, along with maize and sugarcane. Agricultural production increased in India due to the effect of the Green Revolution in the country, but the Green Revolution had the greatest impact on wheat production. I live in the NCR region, where about one-third of India's wheat is produced, and it ranks first in terms of wheat production. This is one-third of the total wheat area of India. In this region, the Ganga-Yamuna and Ganga-Ghaghra river deltas are especially famous for wheat cultivation.

Apart from rice and wheat, sugarcane is one of the major products of our country.
We produce coffee in Karnataka state.
Assam and Tamil Nadu are the major producers of tea.
Kerala and Bengal are major rice producers, although rice is grown in every part of the country and is exported to 120 countries in the world.
Maharashtra produces cotton in abundance.

Now I will answer your questions as you asked them:

A- Indian agriculture is the main occupation of the country, the main means of livelihood for the people. Therefore, agriculture is called the soul of the nation. Agriculture plays a major role in solving the food crisis. If any nation in the world is suffering from a food crisis, then the economic development of that nation stops.

B- How has this main agricultural product helped in reducing poverty and promoting rural development in your country?

The food crisis proves to be very fatal for the economy. Indian agriculture may have a low share in the GDP, but the food storage in the country is the highest. Agriculture is the main weapon of food production and food security. Agriculture is the primary source of the economy of any nation.

C- What are the main challenges facing your country's top crops (e.g., cocoa, palm, maize, wheat, rice, etc.) in terms of economic impact?

Agriculture has an important contribution to the Indian economy. About 60 percent of the population here is associated with agriculture, agriculture is the largest sector of employment. Therefore, agriculture is called the backbone of the economy.

D- What current or past government initiatives are boosting agricultural productivity in your country?"
Food produced from Indian agriculture feeds 17 percent of the total population of the world. Agricultural development leads to improvements in nutrition, an improvement in the global hunger index, and an increase in income, and employment. Perhaps this is the reason why agriculture is called the main key to economic and social development. 50 percent of the country's total working workforce is engaged in the agricultural sector. Agriculture is the basis of large raw material-based industries.

Across the world, the jute industry, textile industry, edible oil industry, leather industry, sugar, and tobacco industries depend on agricultural products. In India, industries dependent on agricultural products contribute to about 35 percent of the total income. The export of agricultural-based products helps in economic growth and earning foreign currency in the country. If we talk about the agricultural sector in the gross domestic product, then agriculture has made an important contribution to the national income. In the 1950s, the share of agriculture in the gross domestic product was about 53 percent.

As the pace of development in the economy increased, the share of agriculture in the gross domestic product kept decreasing. A few decades back the share of agriculture in the gross domestic product was 25 percent, but later in the second decade of this century, the contribution of agriculture in the GDP was a little over 13 percent.

E- What solutions can enhance agricultural productivity and growth in your country?

At present, the contribution of agriculture in the economy starts decreasing due to the development of the secondary and tertiary sectors of the economy. When a nation progresses from a developing to a developed nation, the economy depends on the secondary and tertiary sectors. If the share of agriculture in India's total exports is 10 percent. In the economy of our country, agriculture is given the highest priority because if agriculture fails, then both the government and the nation fail.

The food security of about 1.45 billion people in our country depends on agriculture. The importance of agriculture in the Indian economy is important in various sectors. The role of agriculture in the capital formation of railways and transport is commendable. Railways earn the most money from freight, most of which are goods related to agriculture.

Agriculture is the basis of industries like the cotton industry, jute, sugar, leather industry, and tobacco. Such industries are not possible without agriculture. Tea, tobacco, spices, etc. play an important role in India's foreign trade. Foreign exchange is obtained from the export of agricultural products. Agriculture plays an important role in the foreign exchange reserves.

In our country, agricultural products prove to help compensate for the loss in imported goods. In our economy, agriculture is the basic working capital for industrial development and agricultural production for industrialization; that is why agriculture is called the backbone of the economy.

In our country, research, innovation, and technological advancement in the agricultural sector have brought about a lot of change in the structure of employment, and they are working continuously to improve production.

Along with employment in the government sector, opportunities in the private sector have expanded considerably. Agriculture plays an important role in industrial development. There are many industries in India for which raw material is obtained from agriculture. In India and all over the world, the cotton, textile, sugar, vegetable, and plantation industries and the jute industry depend on agriculture. If there is a decrease in the development of agriculture we shall definitely suffer.

I am proud to be an Indian, where farmers play their roles similar to engineers, doctors, and other professionals.

Welcome to the agro learning challenge season 20 Week-3.

Observations and suggestions:
India's role in prioritizing the agricultural sector with the developed world is the highest and India's position is always between one and three. You are right that agriculture is the lifeblood of the Indian nation. India's contribution to GDP is very high. Good to know that 60% of people in India are still involved in agriculture. In the past agriculture contribution in India has declined somewhat according to your theory. Food security of 1.45 billion people is dependent on agriculture which has already left me wanting. India's agriculture will grow further in the future.

Yes due to a higher rate of education in technology Indians are joining the technical services in various sectors yet the increasing population is still supported by the agriculture sector. Thanks for you kind review.

Most welcome sir,❤️

Agriculture has played vital role to livelihood because if not for agriculture the rate of unemployment would have been alarming in our nation, out of 100% employment from my findings agriculture have proven to offer 60% of employment to youths, after school finding a decent job was like an imposible mission while still seeking for jobs i ventured into agriculture and am glad i did.
Good luck with the contest.

That's true! Even the most developed countries keep their agriculture sector on their priority list and spend a lot of money on research and development. If there is no enough food no country in the world can survive on their other assets.

In every nation, agriculture is very important as it is the sector that contributes massively to the wealth of a nation without agriculture there would be massive hunger. You have done well and thanks for the invite. I would like you to check your markdown.

Thanks, very true, only yesterday our government lifted the ban on rice export which was making a difference in over 50 countries. Yes, thanks, I have corrected that to some extent.

That is great. You mean your country export rice to over 50 countries if so that means there must be surplus foods in your country. How I wish I can be in such country, because rice is my favorite meal.

We export to 120 countries but we stopped exporting to 50 countries. Our government has commenced it only this week.

That is nice. Although in my country we mostly depend on importation of rice and it is what the government is trying to stop so it can encourage people to go into farming.
