The dairy game| The life of a farmer
Hello diary!
It's been a while since I last wrote. Today, I want to talk about my experience as a farmer for a few days. It was not easy, and after thinking about everything around me, I realized we had to take action. I planned to relax, but things turned out differently.
Waking up today felt tough because of the long journey I took. My body still hurts, but I had to get up for the work ahead. I thought about going to the farm to harvest cassava, peel it, and grind it, and the thought made me feel tired. But I finally got up because time doesn’t wait for anyone.
After we harvested the cassava, it was time to peel it. This took almost the entire day since there were only a few of us and so much cassava to peel.
We paused to have breakfast before getting back to work. After peeling, we washed the cassava and packed it in a bag to take to the factory for grinding and pressing.
It took two days before we brought it back home for frying. During this time, I rested, slept, and ate well while waiting for the two days to pass.
On the second day, I brought the cassava home and began sieving it before frying. Sieving helps turn the cassava into a fine powder, making it easier to fry.
I started frying right after I sifted a big batch of cassava. I used firewood to start the fire and put my frying pot on it to dry out.
Frying is the hardest part of making garri because it all happens over the fire. I sat there for 9 hours to finish frying. It was tough, but I enjoyed it and managed to get through.
Considering the state of the economy, what other options do we have? We need to adapt and do whatever we can to support it. This garri will last for three to four months, and it's quite good.
Food prices are really high right now, which is why I started processing cassava to save money and cope with the situation.
I completed everything and took a break for the day. It was a tough day for me. Being a farmer is challenging, but it has its rewards.
Catch you in my next diary!
