The people of Tsimane, who live in the Amazon rainforest of Bolivia, lead very different lifestyles from developed societies. According to a recent study, the brain of the ethnic group is much healthier than ours, the University of Southern California website reports.
Andrei Irimia, a neuroscientist at the University of Southern California and a member of the team, said the tribe provides a great natural experiment to assess the health effects of modern lifestyles. The researchers examined 746 adults aged 40 to 94 years, transporting the subjects to the nearest town where CT is available. The results of the analysis were compared with data from people living in developed areas. Although tsimans showed high levels of inflammation, it apparently had no severe effect on their brains.

Experts hypothesize that in Western societies, obesity and metabolic problems may lead to dangerous inflammation, while tsimans may have a background of respiratory, gastrointestinal, and parasitic infections. Researchers are confident that their findings could help cure brain diseases.
