What Medicines I Keep In My Cabinet...

in Natural Medicine5 years ago

@Naturalmedicine came up with a simple side challenge to the main Build It Challenge

The Medicine Cabinet Challenge details here

All you need to do is show your natural medicine "cabinet" in whatever form it is!

In my actual medicine cabinet above the sink I don't have any real medicines there. It's in my pantry I have a corner of a shelf stocked with different essential oils and some Chinese Medicine from my sister who is a Doctor in Chinese Medicine.

Most of these are from my prepper days where I felt I should not only have a good supply of food stuff but also some medicinal things i would use. Also our local health food store was closing down and selling off all there stock at very low prices so I stocked up!

Here you will find

  • oil of oregano which I use for sore throats or when I have a cold.
  • silver bullet which is mainly colloidal silver which I use on sore throats infections in the mouth or throat or topically for cleaning open wounds or infected areas.
  • Wintergreen since I love the smell and would use for homemade toothpastes and such.
  • spagyric tinture of cloves from @alchemage's store at Homesteaderscoop I also have his spagyric tincture of myrrh and also garlic (which is in the fridge) this I've used for sore gums and it works wonderfully!
  • theives oil which I love the smell of and have it in a diffuser in my bathroom (supposedly to protect against molds) and also on my pouch of activated charcoal that i have hanging by my bed.
  • camphor oil which I use on cold soars - clears them up very quickly when nothing else seems to work. I haven't had a cold sore in a real long time so I haven't used much of it.
  • eucalyptus oil that I use when I'm stuffed up with a cold to clear my nasal passage. This is another one that i just love the smell of and may also put a few drops in bathwater again to open the airways.
  • miracle oil which is a healing formula with hemp oil, tea tree, Vitamin E and 6 other oils I use on an area of dry skin or sun damaged skin
  • raw shredded Chaga which I make up a decotion of to build the immune system

It is cool and dark in the pantry so I keep my infusion products in there and some apple cider vinegar I use for my tonic.

Oils and Creams Kept in Fridge

oils and creams in fridge for Medicine Post.JPG

  • arnica cream I use to clear up bruising
  • Garlic tincture is an immune boaster and I use it if I'm getting a cold
  • MSM Aloe gel I use on cuts and scrapes or burns if I don't have a Aloe Vera pant close by to use the gel directly from the leaf
  • iodine has antiseptic for cuts and scraps

Wellness Formula and Nine Flavor Tea ( a Chinese Medicine) Kept in the Fridge

Wellness formula and 9 flavor tea for Medicine Cabinet post.JPG

In the fridge on the door I keep a few creams and such along with some Chinese Medicine (Nine Flavor Tea) my sister sent for my husband who has night sweats, and a Wellness formula I take whenever things seem to be getting off balance especially at any signs of a cold.

Look at the Ingredients in the Wellness Formula.

I do have other dried herbs but they are in the cupboard with my teas or in the root cellar still in their bags. I'm big on Stinging nettle for it's nutrient dense and if you are anemic it has lots of available iron. I have corn silk for urinary infections, alfalfa again for it's nutrients great as a tea (I like it with mint to add flavor to it) for making strong teeth and bones with the calcium in it. Peppermint for upset stomachs.

That's the bulk of what I have but mostly I use food as medicine, a good preventative medicine!

Hey! Love it!! You are so lucky having a TCM doc for a sister - clearly both of you are into the healing arts! Looks like you are pretty prepped on your meds there! And JJ guarding the vinegar - well done JJ!! It's valuable stuff!!!

Cool to see some American/Canadian? brands here I've heard about the place but don't get here! We have our own versions down under I suppose!! I love nettles too - who could not love this queen of tonics! I've been really into my herbal infusions of late, Susun Weed style, but that's coz it's end of Spring and there's a wealth of them out there. Gotta find a good supply of nettle to dry though, am yet to find any locally!

My sister use to live in the same community as me and it was wonderful having her so close sharing remedies. She has since moved to the coast so I don't see her that often but talk to her lots - still sharing remedies!
Wish you lived in Canada I'd send you all the dried nettle you could possibly want! We have a ton of it in our area!

You have such wonderful treasures of healing here @porters, a very impressive medicinal stock. I did not know that camphor was good for cold sores, thank you for that. I am very impressed with the amount of amazing ingredients in Wellness Formula, that certainly packs a punch. Thanks so much for sharing.

You're welcome! I came upon camphor as a remedy for cold sores kind of out of desparation when nothing else was working.

Do you get colds? It's the number 1indicator wether your immune system is working or not.
Seeing all these bottles seems like you are struggling with many little issues. Just to give some contra ;)

Actually I haven't had a cold in a long time even though I work at a school with young kids. I had bought these more in preparation if I had a cold or felt something coming on.

Awesome post! You know... I have had a sore throat and pretty bad cough for over a month AFTER getting over being sick. Then I read the first two items in your medicine cabinet - this triggered my memeory and made me realize there are 2 natural solutions sitting right in front of me in this post. Thank you @Porters, I am picking up either the oil of oregano or colloidal silver tomorrow.

Cute cat... looks like our house cat Shorty.

Hey! I'm glad it helped you keep well! Hope it relieves your sore throat and you're feeling 100% soon!

Ditto, blessings @Porters.

Love my garlic breath

Wow. This sure is a change from the traditional anit-pyretic, anti-histamine, NSAID, syrup of epicac, activated charcoal, etc. home medicine cabinet!

Enjoyed your post.
