The rock, a classic by Michael Bay in 1996. The three ace male protagonists, Nicholas Cage, Sean Connery and Ed Harris, are quite wonderful. Just looking at the name is enough to make people look forward to it.

What is rare is that there is no absolute contradiction or pure evil in character setting. The confrontation between the two sides can be called justice because they hold different values, so this confrontation is even more touching.

General Hummel played by Ed Harris is a national hero since Vietnam War, but this time he organized more than 80 people to fight against the government, took 81 tourists on Alcatraz Island as hostages, and stole chemical weapons with great destructive power to target Los Angeles in an attempt to threaten the government. All he did was because he couldn't stand the neglect of many dead soldiers in politics. Many of his men died for their country in various military operations, but because the government denied the secret operations, these poor people were not rewarded, subsidized or even given a formal military funeral. In the end, their families only got a false reason, never knowing why they died. Hummel is pleading for such a group of people, although I think he also knows that although his actions are well-planned, they are still naive and doomed to fail in the end.

After seeing the back and thinking about the beginning, Hummel said to his wife's tombstone, there is one thing I can do only after you leave, which is even sadder.

The most tragic scene in the whole film is the big confrontation between the two sides in the bathroom of Alcatraz Island. Hummel's men and the task force sent by the FBI each have their own mission and ideals, and each has their own beliefs that they want to stick to. So there is no right or wrong, but life and death are inevitable. They are all soldiers who used to listen to and serve the country, but they had to shoot their companions with weapons sent by the country. Bloodshed, it makes people cry.

At the last minute, Hummel changed the course of the missile. He couldn't bring disaster to civilians, and the consciences of soldiers stopped him, which also killed him by his men who were eager to get pension. Hummel is a great soldier, I think. There is no recklessness, no impulse, and more soldiers have perseverance, restraint and sense of justice. I like it very much.

Sean Connery plays British SAS intelligence agent Mei Sen, which is an eye-opener. Although he needs to be completely white, he is extremely agile, and almost always wants to find a way to attack or escape, without losing grace. The old guy is really handsome.

Nicholas Cage is still a charming man with the right at the right hypochondrium and overly optimistic adventurous spirit. Although he is not very good at using weapons and has not been trained as an agent, he has performed brilliantly from clumsily climbing the sewer to successfully disarming all missiles.

The picture is exquisite and the soundtrack is wonderful. This film is really a classic.
