Respect yourself

We humans are born with different traits. Some are very quite and shy, while other are vocal and expressive. Some are more commanding and bossy, which others are simple. Oppression the weak is part of human nature.

People need to understand that it's up to them to make sure that they are not been used by others. Being kind and generous is not a sign that you are a weakling, there is a big difference. Here are few things I have learnt over time to make sure that I'm not taken for granted.

1.Give yourself importance
Your life is more important and essential compare to anyone else, this you should always keep in mind. Being a good and charitable person doesn't mean you should become a slave to others. prioritize your tasks and weigh your option. You comes first in your life.

2.Fiercely protect yourself
By prioritizing your life, will help set a boundary for you, and stop others from crossing that line. For instance, an office colleague dumping his/her workload upon you is not acceptable.

3.Schedule time for yourself
Sometimes, being available always make one loss his/her value. Spend time with yourself, don't give them the opportunity to take you for granted. If you want people attention, then you need to stop giving them yours always. Always be there for you.

4.Learn to say 'NO'
Cultivate the nature of saying No sometimes. People whose nature can't refuse a person, you need to understand that there are instance where you politely turn down work orders. There are only 24 hours in a day; you have only two hands and one mind; don’t over burden yourself. Unhurriedly and gradually people will understand that you can say no. It may come as a shock to them initially; some may even hold grudges against you and be upset with you. Be strong and stand tall. Don’t let them whimper and force you into giving in. They will never stop taking you for granted till you learn to say no.

5.Don’t isolate yourself
You need not stop being who you are the generous, loving, humble and kind. Stay reachable, stay in touch but don’t take the requests people make so seriously that you forget about yourself. The responsibility of the entire world does not lie on your shoulder. But remember 'The One’ shall reward you in every way, for the extra mile that you go for others.

All of these things might be hard for you to do at first, and people will not readily accept your attitude. Trust me with time you will be glad that you put your foot down after all. Best of luck!
