RE: The comforter.
Lurking as in leaving the site open and monitoring things without actively posting much. Sometimes I look at challenges and end up writing stuff that's not worth sharing. This doesn't always stop me, but I'm just not feeling it for the most part.
Yeah, new year's eve is one of the loniest times in the year imho. Gotta make the best out of it though and stop pulling on grass to make it grow faster. It's not like that most people would listen anyhow, so why try to change them? It's like arguing with the family on christmas, for what exactly? We're just here and then we're not.
btw. there was something that made me laugh when I stumbled upon a whole page ad while reading the local news rag: "Do you like arguing on christmas? Join the Green Party." Made me chuckle.
Also what's wrong with your cat? Feline on feline violence?
For sure Christmas and New Year's Eve (weirdly we call it Old Year's Eve) are the most loneliest and miserable days in the year mainly because of the date and the commercials and shops. All the advertisements about happiness and being with the family is not what most experience and those who do how many of them are really happy? I know plenty saying they rather sit in their room and do as they like instead of hearing the talks (or fights) about whatever happened a looooong time ago.
With us it was tradition to dress up, long gala dresses and the rest was boring the only plus was my grandmother baking apple beignets (basins filled with them) and "oliebollen" (today I have nothing I can always bake them if I feel to it). After a long and booooring evening, it was the Old Year's Conference some comedians tried to make the Netherlands laugh. The old ones did it with satire and irony the younger ones mainly try to avoid stepping on toes and lack humour. I stopped watching which I did anyway since I no longer watch TV and if the government decides what the "right" comedian is, there's no art.
The cat.. long story, no idea but the misery is for at least 6 if not 7 months. Reason of kidney failure, bad DNA? Seems to be common with cats. The (new) vet said to consider to jab him into paradise. He stopped eating and drinking blood everywhere but he arose out of the dead, climbed twice in the x-mas tree and covered the living and kitchen with puddles of blood and poop. Always a great way of waking up. More weird is he feels better on those days (I can't say that about me).
The vet said he would be more miserable and in terrible pain, I see the opposite he's extremely happy although a bag of bones and more active than he was during the past months.
So far so good. My son will be back in a few days and hopefully, the cat will live a bit longer.
Till soon and you can always ignore the date, it makes life way easier.

This isn't exactly a revlation, but happiness seems like a carrot on a stick anyhow. It's a marketing gimmick meant to keep you moving, both as an individual organism and in terms of being part of a larger system of relationships. A bit like American Santa, ironically enough. The promise of fulfillment and all that. You know, getting stuffed both physically and emotionally. Meanwhile the things you want are almost never the things you need. Either or, sooner or later reality settles in and people move on to the next best desire and that's that, but reality is never quite as grand as the marketing. So better hold on to those receipts I guess, because the higher your expectations are the bigger your dissappointment will be.
The latter is imo cause for many of those family fights. Everybody is just acting like they believe they should, effectively putting up masks in order live up to some unrealistic ideal. Maybe in terms of replicating old memories and emotions, or maybe because you got hyped by the media, or got peer pressured into attributing an importance to things that ultimately aren't. Then someone cracks and the blame game starts with everybody pointing fingers. Or maybe it works out, but even then the shit talking just starts a few days later. But that just my subjective experience.
Regarding the cat you never know. Was having one that lost all it's teeth due to some kind of autoimmunity issue. Turns out not pulling the plug was the right decision, because the guy still lived until he started dragging one of his legs. Probably a bite or such, but either way fixing it would've required keeping him in a narrow cage for a few months. The alternative being amputation, or putting him down. So I scheduled for the amputation and walked him over next morning. I forget the exact details, but thats when they discovered additional kidney problems. I think those could've been handled as well, but that's where I drew the line. Maybe it it had been one thing or the other, but sometimes you just have to let go. Or that's how I felt back then anyhow.
Also damn well almost burned the house down. I was so stressed by the whole drama I left the stove on before leaving the house. Luckily there was a pot of water sitting on top, but when I got home most water was gone and the bottom had turned black. I think I've still got that pot somewhere. Then I then ended up burying the cat in the yard. Must've been like maybe seven years ago? Eh, doesn't matter.
On a positive note: I figure the trick to being satisfied is wanting what you have instead of wanting what you don't. I wish you guys get what you're looking for.

Nearly burning the house down was me for many years always due to the kettle that took ages on the stove so I left to do some other stuff... and forgot. On rare occassions I still deal with it. The electric watercooker won't switch off (I knew as I bought it, meant for camping 600 Kwh) which is good to boil water I use (water out if well so you never know what you swallow).
I had a shelter for probl. animals (predatirs)and agree at a certain point a line should be drawn. I told the kid the same and to leave the cat (stay/die) at home where he feels comfortable. He did seem to like driving around in the car but had it with the vet which is something we have in common. Special food is what he needs and most of it he refused so it ended up in the dog.
It's true what we frequently +we usn't me since years) is rarely what we need or like for a few years of our life (so much money I wasted to keep others happy 🤢 but I stopped that behaviour for 88% - I work towards 100 🤣)
Write down why you wanted what you have. If thar reason fades away it's hard and emptyness or new wishes appear.
It isn't a piece of art but hereby.
In return you can make me a drawing!

I'm not complaining but you're being too generous. Maybe I'm complaining a little, but I appreciate it none the less.
That stuff about the shelter sounds interesting. Have you written about it?
Thank you!
