My entrepreneurship journey
Hello everyone, I am about to start another step in Steemit since my last activity was around 5-6 years ago. I am really happy this platform is still active. I thought it was shut down until I found the news recently. By the way, I am going to share my entrepreneurship journey because of my old notebook, which I found yesterday. This notebook recorded all my notes from 2011/2012 when I decided to leave my career as a professional filmmaker in Indonesia.
I graduated from Jakarta Institute of Art, where I had a film directing major, since 2002 I have studied and worked as a freelancer in the film Industry, as a film crew, music video director, and TV series until around 2011. I was in love with technology, at that time Digital marketing just emerged in Indonesia, and I wanted to be part of it. I was planning to shift my career from a filmmaker to a digital marketer and work for a marketing agency in Jakarta. So I had to learn digital marketing skills by myself and apply for an internship at that time, but for some reason, I needed to leave Jakarta and fly back to my hometown to take care of my sick father.
This time my entrepreneurship journey began, In this smaller town, no marketing agency would hire me for digital marketing, So I needed to start my own marketing agency. Apparently, this notebook accompanied me the whole time, recording all my learning processes page by page. The first sentence in this book is " If you are not a brand then you are a commodity, the lowest price is the winner". I still use that point of view for my business or other people's businesses when they are asked an advice or a basic audit of their business.
From that moment I was trying to get my first client, and from that book, I saw my first client, every note and strategy about that business I made. It was a ready-to-drink product from my local town, I was very proud when I read this, there was even a logo design sketch by me for my marketing agency called "Medan Branding".
From this book as well, I remembered that this digital marketing service does not run really long, I fell in love again with the startup technology business, and I want to build my own tech company, and the product is called "kapankawin" (when get married), is a platform that will help a couples to pick wedding organizer vendor without a hassle just online. The idea came because of my friend's story, he was really upset and overwhelmed because of the wedding organizer searching process, discussion, and everything. I don't really have any experience in the wedding industry, so that might be the reason I discontinue the project.
Because of my knowledge of the startup industry, again it was self-taught knowledge, I became known as an influencer for that topic which led me to a position as a city manager for a non-profit co-working space initiated by a government-owned company. My responsibility to make a strategy and curriculums for the local community and gain more demand for tech entrepreneurship. In this place I met friends and became my co-founder of a marketing technology startup, we got a seed fund, but again we failed after 6 years because lack of management knowledge I guessed.
Apparently, that was all the story that this tiny book recorded from my entrepreneurship journey, but after that, I kept trying to build my own company, like Software development services, and until now I am still a digital marketing freelancer. Right now I still have a dream for my future company, I believe I will find a way to fulfill my dream, and this steemit journey is one of the experiences I have had on my journey.
