Traditional marriage of Hindu community in Bangladesh.
Assalamu alaikum,
How are you all? Hope everyone is well.Alhamdulillah I am fine as well.Today Let me discuss with you a traditional Hindu wedding in Bangladesh where I was present.Yesterday I attended my college senior's wedding. Marriages are conducted following many principles of marriage in the Hindu community. Various cultural activities and events are organized here, starting with eating.Among us Muslims marriages usually take place in one day but among Hindus it lasts for three days. I could not attend the first day but was there the next day.
They have to make different cultural understandings before marriage. One of them is that they arrange various idols around a banana tree and worship them. They believe that worshiping these moments brings various forms of peace. I have never been to a wedding before so this is the first time I am going to share my experience with you. Then various kinds of food and vermilion are served to the bride and groom. This makes him the oldest woman and man in the house. As far as I know there are about one hundred and seven different types of marriages. On the first day the bridegroom comes to Kon's house and spends one night there.
Four of us from college went to his wedding dinner. They have arranged for us to stay here for one day. Taravindra eats a variety of food every day, including five to six Rajab vegetables. Finally yesterday we were all there to see off the bride and groom. The wives interviewed me before leaving and I took pictures with them. Everyone in our college took pictures with him and after taking pictures I talked to them variously. I gained a lot of experience from this marriage of Hindus.
Marriage is a religious and socially important event in the Hindu community. It is usually performed with great pomp and is done in several steps. There is a religious guru to perform each step. The main stages of marriage are the wedding ceremony, exchange of garlands, kanyadan, and seven-pake bandha. At the beginning of the wedding ceremony, the bridal procession reaches the bride's house in a specially decorated procession. Then in the garland exchange ceremony, the bride and groom garland each other, symbolizing their mutual acceptance. The latter creates a bond by sharing a drink.
Kanyadaan is an important ritual, where the bride's father or guardian hands over the daughter to the groom. But since the father of this senior is not there, the uncle assigns it. Next, the bride and groom circumambulate the sacred fire seven times, symbolizing their taking of seven vows, in a seven-legged tie ceremony. Recitation of religious mantras and presence of priest is essential throughout the process. A festive atmosphere is created with music, dance, and feasting before and after the wedding. A Hindu wedding is a means of bonding not only between two people, but also between the families of the bride and groom. It is a traditional institution built on love, trust, and respect. The clothes of the groom and bride are tied together.
What I love most about weddings is the food rules. Hindu wedding food is very diverse and traditional. Generally, food is served to the guests in different steps. I was also in the guest list. First the entertainment started with sweets and drinks. Then rice, dal, curries, fish, meat and specially prepared edibles are served as main dishes. Having rasgolla, sandesh or pies as dessert is a must. I don't eat sweets so I was less attracted to this. The use of coriander leaves and aromatic spices to serve the food enhances the taste. The event ended with refreshments. Showing respect and hospitality to guests is an important part of this type of event. I like their wedding speeches the most. All in all, I enjoyed it very much.
