Steemit Engagement Challenge S9W3 - Time is money

It feels like the other day I was just a little girl who wanted to grow up so that she could earn money just like her father.
Time, my Steemian friends, goes faster than the blinking of an eye and these days so does money.

Is the term "time is money" appropriate?

It is Benjamin Franklin who is to be blamed for us debating whether time is money". When he wrote this phrase he was giving advice to all of us.

To decide if the phrase "time is money" is appropriate or not, we need to understand the difference between the two. For some of us time is the performance of a job and for others it is the cost of the opportunities they see.

Time, is the measurement of how long it takes to complete a duty or work.
Money, is what you are paid for or what you will be earning for performing a duty or doing work.

Time, is our most valuable commodity.
💰Money, is an important commodity with great value.

Time, is limited. Once it is gone you cannot get it back.
💰Money, is also limited. Once you have used all of it, it is gone, BUT you can get it again.

Time, is the decision you make on how you want to spend your time and it has an impact on your future.
💰Money, is the decision on how you want to spend your money and it has an impact on your life.

Back to the question and my answer.

YES, it is appropriate to say that "time is money".

There is value in both time and money and what I am actually trying to say is to emphasize the fact that saving precious time is equal to saving precious money. To put it into Mr. Franklin’s viewpoint, we must not let opportunities pass us by, and this we can only do if we spend our time wisely.

How do I value time?

One thing YOU and I have in common is that we only have 24 hours, 1440 minutes, and 86,400 seconds in our days. It might sound like a lot of seconds but have you noticed how quickly those seconds pass if you are in a hurry?

Let’s move from Benjamin Franklin to the Greek philosopher Theophrastus, who once said, "Time is the most valuable thing a man can spend."

When I open my eyes in the morning it is against time and when I close them at night it is against time. It is a rush from morning until late at night. In my case, I often think that I even rush my sleep.

When you are a housewife, a businesswoman, and a Steemian time is extremely valuable. Time is so valuable that you cannot get more. As with everything else in life you can get more. How often don’t I wish for that extra bit of time. I am sure you do the same.

A shocker for me was when I realized in life that time only has one direction, and that is forward. It doesn’t go back, not left, and also not right. Time is moving forward at the same pace and it never gets tired. I also had to learn that time waits for no one. Another old English saying is "adapt or die".

I value my time and I have to take control of it every single day. This I can only do by following the 5 simple steps I set out for myself every day.

• I have to plan
• I have to manage my time
• I have to increase my productivity
• I have to prioritize
• I have to say no to distractions

If I can get this right I can say, "I had a good day" when I put my head on my pillow that night. It is also through managing my time that I can learn, make more money, and at the same time allow time for myself and my family.

Theophrastus was right: time spent = high value.

How did I manage my time to stay productive on Steemit in the past week?

I am so much wiser than that little girl I told you about right at the beginning. I have learned as I have grown older that time also doesn’t determine what happens in your life and that we must always expect the unexpected.

I was not as productive as I normally am on Steemit in the last week and that was due to factors out of my control.

Unfortunately, this week was not a good one for me on Steemit.
With visitors for the long weekend, nearly three solid days, and until now over 70 hours of no electricity, plus batteries that got stolen from the tower of our internet service provider, my work on Steemit was not as usual.

However, I am still very proud of myself for using the time that I had to the max on Steemit.

The third person I want to mention is Sir Edmund Hillary, who said, "It is not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves."

I had to climb and conquer more than one mountain while staying true to myself.

  • As Steem Representatives I helped Steemians who asked for help and advice on the platform and on the various social media platforms.
  • I performed admin duties in Steem For Ladies, writing community posts, running contests, booming votes, verifications of new members, curating, etc.
  • I was moderator on my given day and assisted on days where help was needed.
  • I checked and kept track of all 145 entries in SEC Week 2, assisting and advising moderators where needed.

One thing I got good at this week was multi-tasking and working smarter.

Sir Edmund Hillary was also right. It is not the tasks that we conquer, but the fear of how on earth we are going to do them in the time we have on hand. Somehow, all things work out for the better.

In closure I want to leave you with a reality check…

You got me reading from the first word to the last. (•ิ‿•ิ)
It is clear that you've read my post and if I was a teacher I would have scored you 100%.
Well done! This is what makes writing worth every word.

Probably, I will say a banality - money works only in the so-called civilized society. Therefore, some Amazon tribes may not understand what money is. Although, they can understand the measure of time differently than you and I. For them, time is to get food, eat, drink, play with sex, sleep, and circle again.

I will say that time and health are more expensive than money. No one will pay us a good price for our time.

Very interesting! Thank you for the visit and for commenting.
I always get excited when I see there is a comment from you.

In the end I think that all three are important, time, money, and health. The most important will be time as not money nor health will matter if you no longer have time.

That's for sure! But... There will be no health, and time automatically disappears. Or vice versa - eternal "life" on the clouds.

In all, multitasking and working smart on something that can earn money with the limited time we have is the only way to ensure that our time is money.

Thank you for the invite

Congratulations on your time management :) I believe that when we grow up we learn to manage time differently, especially to prioritize and understand what matters most to us. I also sleep more peacefully if I've managed the day in the best possible way, it's a way to maintain control and make the most of the time available. But I believe that organizing time is also a way to organize our mind and our thoughts, managing to stay focused and perhaps have the impression that we can control time before it escapes us!

Oh gosh! Now I feel bad!
Today was one of those days that I just could not manage my time. I suppose we are allowed to have one day off in a week.
Some days, what you have planned is in the end your worst jigsaw puzzle. (•ิ‿•ิ)
Thanks for the visit and the engagement.

Hi @patjewell,

I also believe that phrase "time is money" because some persons can sleep away their time and obviously money is going.

It is true that time has only one direction which is forward. Time can never wait for any man and so we have to be cautious when it comes to time.

Best of luck,

Thank you for the visit and the engagement!
Time is such a silly word.. t.. i.. m.. e, yet it is a word with a massive impact not only our lives but also to everything around us.
Best wishes to you also.

I have realy learn alot reading your post, you have clearly justify the statement by Benjamin Franklin, we all have 24hours to use irrespective of whoever we may be, but our productivity withing same period of time ww enjoy is not thesame. Some mayhave more money than others, our productivity differs despite enjoying the same time with other who earn more.

To my own view time is money Only to those who use it wisely to yield productivity. Thank yu for sharing with us and best of luck ma.

Ah! We are on the same path!

To my own view time is money Only to those who use it wisely to yield productivity.

Exactly!
I read some thing wonderful this morning from one of your Steemit friends @mikitaly
She wrote, the value of time is time!
You can go read her post, it is absolutely worth it.

PS: Thanks for the visit and the engagement.
It is appreciated.☕
