Greetings wonderful people!👋 I wish you all goodness this week and throughout the new year.
This weeks engagement contest by @campusconnectng inspired me to make this interactive post. It is 2022 and as usual compared to other years, it is JAMB(Joint Admissions & Matriculation Board) examination year. A lot of students will be gaining admission into the university this year, so I thought it will be nice to share opinions about accommodation in the university at first year as it is one of the most important aspect to be considered when planning life in the university.
post line.png
As we all know, Campus Hostel is a building apertment built by the university/institution in the campus for the accommodation of her students. It is more like a culture that a room in a hostel should contain more than a student, i.e 4 to 6 students per room.
Some dissatisfaction of campus hostel:
In a situation where the hostel is old, there may be damages and unhealthy material in the hostel or its environs. This may cause ill-health if not managed carefully by the students concerned. Other worrying conditions includes untreated water and the cleanliness of the environment, although they can be managed.

The goodness of hostel at first year:
Someone may ask, "if all I mentioned above about hostel is true, how then would it have good conditions?"
The hostel have a lot of good benefits to a new student in the campus. An uncle asked me why I want my junior brothers to stay in the hostel at first year and I gave him the following reasons:

  • Exposure - Staying in the hostel in your first year will help expose one to many aspects of surviving in the campus as a student.
  • Association - This another great aspect to consider as a new student, one learns more about associating with fellow students and hence be safe to fit in to the right cycle that will aid one throughout his/her stay in the university.
  • Knowledge - This is one of the best part of staying in the hostel, one finds it easy to cooperate with other students in learning and studying. Most friends or study mates in the university met while in the hostel.
  • Information - This is another best part of staying in the hostel. Although one can argue that electronic devices and the internet exist now and getting informations from fellow students is just secondary. But if you think deeply about information misinterpretation, you will understand that it is good to also do as other students are doing so you will be in the same line with good guidelines when performing a task.
  • Future - One can meet fellow students who will be of great importance in their life while in the hostel. This is one of the great aspect of staying in the hostel that I can testify to.

Staying in the hostel at first year is advisable, however, it is a choise. A working class student may decide to lodge outside the campus for privacy and so on, or a student with kind of ill-health may decide to stay away from getting more troubles staying with strange people at the initial.
But if you ask me, I advise hostel for first year students considering the above benefits which I can testify to.

Thank you for reading, I hope to see your opinion on the topic of this article in the comment box.

Nice write up bro. In my opinion staying in hostel in first year is actually a good thing that’s if the hostel is conducive. Come to university of Nigeria Nsukka , boys hostel is nothing to write home about . It was dirty and the toilet is a topic for another day .

This is one of the disadvantages of hostel... I hope that one day, school management will at least renovate old hostels...

Thanks for your comment brotherly

Bio Yes hostel is wonderful because it gives insight into academic activities... But on the contrary....

taking this scenario

My friend who stayed in the hostel in 1st year went home treating infections from public toilets and skin diseases from bad water too. So the question remains is hostel good for students at 1st year? Open for debates too. He is living in a good loige but the scar of skin diseases and drugs from infections he got still hurts him too... It is really interesting here.

The scenario mentioned here is one of the shortcomings of staying in the hostel... But taking note of this at the initial stage of staying in the hostel should not be ignored... For instance, during my stay in the hostel, I made sure I boil water before taking my bath, I do drink sachet water, if I have no money to buy water, my mom (now late) bought me a water bottle that could keep water warm for long, I took my hygiene so serious because I new I will fall sick if I don't take care.
And I made it through without ill-health. I'm very happy with the friends I made then in the hostel, in fact, it was through one of my friends that I get to know about steemit.com.

This is why any student reading this article should please prioritise his/her health while in the hostel.

Thanks so much for this comment brotherly.

Hostel has its advantages and disadvantages. I also stay in hostel and I enjoy the fun of associating with people. It gives me an opportunity to connect with lots of persons from different cultures.
One major disadvantage is the issue of infection, and I wonder how we can erase this?

The school management are by default to help handle the issue of sensitive areas causing diseases and infections...sometimes the students live dirty and I don't care life, keeping their environs dirty and messed up...

This means that both the school management and the students have roles to play in controlling ill-health in the hostel.

I just remembered, in the block where I lived during my stay in the hostel, there was this room that was so clean that I was so much inspired to try my best to stay clean... The students in that very room were so coordinating and maintained cleanliness throughtout their stay in the hostel. I love such spirit.

Well I never stayed in a hostel and I missed all the fun.. wish I could stay in one before I graduate

It's definitely not too bad to not stay in the hostel at first year... If you will ask me, I'll suggest you don't go back to the hostel since your mates are no longer there, you may not like how the junior levels do their things. I don't know your level anyway... It's a choice.

Thanks for taking part in this amazing contest, truly Hostel have it advantages and disadvantages, but if you ask me I can only consider staying in a private hostel, call it only two individuals in a room, this will help in curtailing case of contracting infection. But All the Same have seen female hostels that is so clean, both the environment, rooms and rest room so I will say it's dependent on the set of students occupying the hostel

Your view is accurate, considering how compacted it is for more than 3 students in a small room.

No doubt, staying in the hostel is advisable for a year one student that is trying to settle down in his new environment. But the cons in staying in the hostel is too much if you ask me o. I personally had a bad experience last month, when I went for aptitude test and I stayed in the hostel.
The hostel looks very neat in the outside and so unkept in the inside infact my mouth cannot explain what my eyes saw. I went with a clear skin and came back with black spots on my face even tho The amount antiseptic I add in the water is enough to use twice, the water is Soo bad that it damages the skin. I almost got an infection too.
So if you ask me staying in the hostel has advantages and disadvantages that are too numerous to mention , we just has to be careful so it will be conducive for to stay.

Your views are correct... The last lines said it all...we just have to be careful and try to stay clean no matter where we choose to stay... I've visited a lodge somewhere that I compared with my room in the hostel and my hostel room was better... We just have to be careful.

Staying in hostel can be really good as it gives us the opportunity to aquint our selfs with other like us.
I would always encourage first years to stay in hostel even if it's just for a year.

Exactly brotherly. Thanks for your comment.🙂

Hello, dearest friend, thanks for sharing such a useful content in @campusconnectng
We appreciate you and hope to read more of your post .

Well for me, I'll prefer as a guy to stay in the hostel because, one will be more serious in the hostel than living alone or in a lodge filled with unserious individuals

a point from another angle👍

thanks for your comment

As a first year student in UNN, this post is absolutely correct.

Staying in the hostel in your first year is beneficial though the UNN boys hostel is in terrible shape.

I love they design you made, please which app did you use for it.

Thanks for your comment brotherly... I love the fact that you are verifying from unn... I'm planning on registering my junior bro to study Architecture, I hope he gets admitted in UNN.

I use figma for designing... I'm a UI/Graphic designer.
I'm also improving at becoming a professional front-end developer.

Admission is sure for your bro 💯

I love graphic designing but i have not seen anybody to teach me and i am a computer science student

Thanks brotherly... I am honestly a kind of person that strive to learn... I'm a computer engineering student, I learn almost all I know online... I kinda do believe that we are a YouTube video away from whatever we want to know... You're a computer science student, by now you should have the mindset that you have all you need to learn a task. The internet is so so full of goodness. Try resourcing through YouTube videos consistently for about a month...you will definitely feel the progress...

Thank you so much bro 💯

You're welcome 🙂
