Hello friends. Welcome to my blog once more. Today I would like to discuss about the medical condition, Pluerisy.

This is a very delicate situation that affects the lungs. The lungs as the body organ for resperation is a very important part of the body just as the heart. This is because the heart cannot function well without the lungs; deoxygenated blood is carried from the heart to the lungs for oxygenation then oxygenated blood is transported from the lungs back to the heart, where it is distributed to the rest of the body part. An unhealthy lung cuts this procedure short.
Let's have a look at this medical condition.

What is pleurisy

This is a medical condition that affects the lungs, resulting to very sharp pains in the chest. The lungs are covered by thin layers of tissues which separate the lungs from the chest wall and reduces friction because of its smooth surface. So the pleural layers protects the lungs from contracting when we breath.
So now when this pleural layers get swollen due to inflammation it is no longer smooth, then the two layers of the plueral layer covering the lungs rubs against each other causing the lungs to contract when you breath in or out which in turn gives a sharp chest pain.

This medical situation is referred to
as pluerisy.

Symptoms of pluerisy

Severe chest pain when breathing which can temporarily be relieved by holding the breath.

Shortness of breath

Dry cough

Sharp pain in the shoulder

Fever and cold.

Causes of pleurisy

Pleurisy can be developed when you have recently contacted other disease that affects the lungs too. It's this diseases that inflames the plueral layers.

Influenza(flu)

Tuberculosis

Pneumonia

Pneumothorax

Cancer of the lungs

Thoracic endometriosis

Trauma to the chest

It can also be caused by reaction from medications taken for lung diseases.
and the rest of them.

So if you have contacted any of this diseases in the past or currently recovering you are most likely to develop this situation.

It can also be developed when you have blood clot in your lungs.

Sickle cell Anaemia.

Personally, am under medication for pneumonia but it is also accompanied by antibiotics to reduce the risk of inflammation and I take antibiotics because pneumonia is a bacterial diseases .
If you happen to have any of the symptoms, be sure to contact your doctor.

Some Medications for treating pleurisy

Now the medications for treating pleurisy is based on the lung diseases that caused it.

Like antibiotics are taken in a case where it's caused by bacterial diseases like pneumonia and tuberculosis.

For pneumothorax, oxygen therapy is administered.

In some cases surgery is needed.
Taking of anti inflammatory drugs.

If it's caused by virus infection like influenza you might get better without any medication.

Some times, pleurisy can cause fluids to build up in your chest and this makes it difficult to breath. It can be cured my draining the liquid. The medical situation of fluid building up in the chest is called plueral infusion and it's characterised by severe coughing and difficulty in breathing.

You might need an inhaler in a situation you feel pressure in your chest or tightness in the chest.

Cough syrup can also be taken. This can reduce the friction between the lungs in the mean time.

You can also lie on the side of the chest that hurts you. This will help ease the pains.

Painkillers can also be taken to reduce the pain.

Prevention of pluerisy

Well there is no better prevention than to visit the doctor when you start experiencing any of this symptoms, especially when you have just recovered from any disease that affects the lungs. Any slight symptom that indicates a cardiac problem should not be ignored. And smoking is really bad for your lungs so it should be avoided completely if you want to your lungs in good condition. And if you are a smoker already, quit it if you want to prevent developing pluerisy.

Conclusion

Health is wealth. All this issues affecting the lungs should not be ignored because it determines whether or not one lives or not. When the respiratory organ is in a serious situation like this, the rest of the body parts are affected. So pls take the initiative to visit the doctor today if you are experiencing any of this symptoms today or you know anyone that is experiencing symptoms.

Stay healthy and stay safe.
