" Learning lucrative skill at tender age"

Learning a skill at a tender age wasn't the best decision.

Hello everyone. Welcome to another week of an amazing contest organised by @dequeen. I’m glad to share my thought with you here.

Is it advisable to send a child to learn skills at tender age?

It is advisable. But in this part of the world, I would say one should be very careful where they send their kids to acquire a skill from. If care is not taken, these children may end up learning a skill for two years. This skill could actually be acquired elsewhere within a year.

This is why the parents must get to know the owners of the shops or workshops where their children will be working at.

On the other hand, learning at a tender age is beautiful because children seem to learn faster, and they will get to practice it for a longer time.

What are the advantages or disadvantages of sending a child to learn skills at tender age?

Let’s look at this in a few ways:

Advantages

  • Fast learning: Children have very sharp minds that can hold and retain what they’ve been taught. So once something is shown to them, they can easily remember the steps and procedures, even if they cannot effectively implement it.

  • Submission: Children submit a lot to their masters and mistresses when they are out to learn a skill. This is largely because they have the passion for that skill, and they are already submissive at home. It becomes the master to teach them with much ease.

Disadvantages

  • Overlooking: Most of the people that take children on training usually overlook these children or think less about them. They feel like these children are too young to learn a skill, especially if it’s a hard skill.
So here, many things are not taught or shown to these kids.

  • Disrespect: A lot of children can be disrespected simply because they cannot really speak up for themselves. This makes their teachers to talk anyhow to them, or send them on errands unnecessarily, including the customers.

Did you learn a skill at tender age? If yes, relate your experience. If no, state your reasons.

I learned hairstyling at a young age, and the experience was not nice at all. In fact, most of the basic things I would have dine were given to the worker there, because my mistress felt I was still too young to touch the customer’s hair.

Sometimes, I had to beg the worker to allow me do some things when my mistress was not around. These were the only few times I could really do anything to improve or implement what I was taught.

I was majorly there to observe, run errands, and probably listen in on discussions that were both necessary and unnecessary. There was no growth on my part.

Which skills can one learn at a tender age?

On my end, I would say soft skills. I have seen a nine-year-old girl who develops games apps from the scratch, and she sells it now to different companies. Soft skills would be the best I can advise any child or parent to go for.

I believe there is a little respect here, and they work strictly with time. In addition, these children can still work on their own with their devices even after the learning session is over.

Alternatively, parents should know where their children go to for hard skills and be convinced that their children will be taken seriously there.

They can even go from time to time to see the progress of their children and call in sometimes to know how much the teacher is doing.

In conclusion, skills have become a necessity today. Thus, learning from a tender age is never a bad idea, but the teachers must take these children seriously.

Would like to invite @saintprisca, @bela90 and @mcgrady to participate in this contest.
