What Is My Blog's Engagement Rate?

Recently, I came across an interesting post that talked about such a parameter as Engagement Rate. It was about an account on the Instagram social network. But I was interested in calculating this parameter for my own blog on Steemit.

Engagement Rate (ER) is an indicator of the engagement or active audience of your page. ER in social networks is measured as a percentage and shows how many of an account's followers respond to posts. This includes: likes, reactions, comments, reposts.

This indicator is calculated according to the following formula:

It is interesting that in the quoted article there is a calculation of the Engagement Rate for the Instagram page of the famous Ukrainian TV presenter Masha Efrosinina, which is 2.7%. The calculation was made for three days.

Thanks to a great tool like steemworld.org, I will be able to calculate the Engagement Rate for my blog for the last 7 days.

So, in the last 7 days I have published 7 posts. Posts received:

  • 3559 votes;
  • 72 replies;
  • 12 resteems.

The voting statistics are distorted by the presence of an automatic curation trail that supports all my posts. Therefore, I will remove 350 votes from each post. Now the number of votes will be 1109. Thus, the total number of interactions will be 1193 for 7 posts, i.e. 170 interactions per post. Let's calculate the Engagement Rate:

( 170 / 497 ) * 100 = 34 %

A few thoughts

Of course, my calculation may be inaccurate, but I am convinced that Steemit Engagement Rate in Steemit is much higher than in other social networks. This is due to the very nature of the platform where people earn rewards. I think this should be emphasized and then more people will pay attention to our platform.

It would be good if the Engagement Rate was calculated automatically for each account. This provided information for potential new authors seeking an active audience.

There are also risks. If marketers pay attention to Steemit, we'll definitely be dealing with promotional posts here. This will degrade our experience, but it will also connect the Steem economy to the real market.

I wish to see a Post/Blog Insight tool on Steem showing Reach stats like Engagement Rate and Post Impressions. We need something like this to divert the attention from monetary rewards. Although that's the most driving factor but we need more factors to keep motivation levels high.

According to your formula, my Engagement Rate in Feb was 7.3%. It'd be even lower if take into account only 7 days because I barely post once or twice week. 😶

Interestingly, now that I know a "number"... my brain is already telling me to improve it in the next month. This means adding such metrics would positively effect Steem.

Yes, I would really like to have a visit counter here. I would be very interested to know how many living people read my posts. This has been discussed many times, but you know that updates are hard to come by here (or rather, not happening at all).

It's true, that's how our brain works. It always wants to improve something :)

updates are hard to come by here (or rather, not happening at all).

The recent glitches of Steem confirm that. Those who can make a significant change, don't care.

Ouch, I'm not really sure if you should use this kind of calculation when you're sure of a trail vote with almost 300 "voters"... ;-)
Basically, such a score is a great idea, but in my opinion definitely not when bots are involved. So we need a secure "bot capture" for each vote beforehand... ;-)

Wie man sieht, wird der Wert gerade bei langjährigen Usern durch die zwangsläufig höhere Zahl der inaktiven Follower sehr verfälscht:

Followers: 1728
Post 107297456: Votes: 142, Comments:  29, Resteems:  5 --> ER:  10
Sum: Votes:  142, Comments:  29, Resteems:   5
The ER from chriddi is 10.

sehr verfälscht

Jepp. Kann man so auf dem Steem auch nicht machen...

Die Implementierung eines (nicht manipulierbaren) Leser-Zählers würde mir schon reichen... ;-)

I would be fine with any other formula. I would like there to be some other parameter in addition to rewards. As you have already mentioned a hundred times, a visit counter would be enough. Or I would like to know the time the reader stays on the page.

Thank you, it's a great honor. You have no idea how nice it is when someone reads your posts and someone likes them 😀

In average you do receive 10 responds on each post? Burnsteem and so on doesn't count.
If so I wonder how many of them do follow you.
I can not really see my followers or those I follow on my phone which is at times a pain. So I use other tricks to find them back or their posts.

You can be right the interaction here is bigger. I don't use my X or Telegram to chat.

According to my observations, only subscribers leave comments under my posts. It is very rare that someone else comments.

I don't use my X or Telegram to chat.

I don't have my own accounts in any social network except Facebook. I signed up for Facebook a long time ago and used my password many years ago 😆.

However, I have Instagram and Twitter accounts that I run on behalf of Steem.

I have a very old fb too no idea what the password is. I know back then I wanted to cancel/delete it but it's easier to sign up as delete.
Over here mainly elderly use it. We've had our own platform and there still are plus I think writers will join writers.

My Telgram and X aren't used for ... either.
