Club 100 | The Diary Game | Betterlife | I Got Hired As Programming Instructor | by@faizan2sheikh
Assalam o Alaikum steemians, thank you for the overwhelming response to my last post. I shared in the previous post how I got an internship recently, I worked hard there and luckily our trainer was the CTO of another startup U-Tech which teaches latest technologies to young children. I asked him if there is a spot available for teaching python, and he told me he'd let me know when the batch starts.
It was about 2 weeks ago when he told me that there is an opportunity and I should visit there and check the working environment. It's a summer camp set up in our University on weekends when Uni is closed for regular students. So I woke up the next day and went there around 9 A.M.
It was a very pleasant day and cloudy weather. I entered the digital lab where the class was going on. I approached the instructor and she asked me if I am the one who was told to come. Then she asked to me watch and observe her so I can learn how to teach the young kids. It is generally harder to explain things to little children than to your peers.
So that day I spent almost 3 hours observing her and also I helped the students debug the errors they were facing while coding.
Then it was 12pm and the class was over. I enjoyed the whole experience and was also amazed to see such young children learning python. I wondered if I had started learning to code in this young age I would be better off. Then I came home and realized that what she was teaching was not so hard and each of those concepts I already knew as a python developer myself.
After that realization, I messaged the instructor and asked her to let me take on the charge for a while and teach the class. She agreed that I could prepare and explain For Loops in the next class. It was a hard decision for me to take the charge but this year I am determined that I won't lean back on problems or shy away from opportunities.
The night before the next class, I took out my class notes from my programming course and took an overview of them. Then I slept. The next day I got ready and left for the class. I reached there at around 9 pm. Class started, and as the clock ticked my anxiety increased. I had to stand in front of about 40 students and explain the topic on the mic aloud. I sometimes struggle with a speech in such conditions, I speak a little fast. So meanwhile the teacher was explaining her part I was helping students debug their codes and was overthinking about what would happen when she will call me to explain.
I was mentally preparing myself for it. Then she called me I put on the mic. I started explaining why loops are important in programming, then told them about the two types of loops, after that, I taught them what for loop is and what is iteration variable. After explaining I asked them if they got what I told. They said yes, but they were little perplexed, it was evident from their faces, so I repeated all the things one by one, they asked a few questions that I answered and then they completely understood the concept.
I asked the instructor how was it, she told me I did well. She also pointed out how I can improve and also gave me a video of her explaining that topic so I can prepare better.
After that, I felt accomplished and confident. I was happy that I had the courage to teach the whole class, I previously believed that I would do a blunder and they will laugh at me or something, but that fear of me did not stop me from taking this opportunity to conquer my fear of speaking in front of the class.
After that I happily came home and went to rest. After doing all the other tasks of the day I sat for a while pondering the stars and thinking that Allah has planned a lot more great things for me in life I just have to stay consistent and take every opportunity that comes my way, I then went for spending some time doing my assignment and earned an IBM badge certification for course What is data science?
Also, my mid-term exams were also going on so here's another meme to end the post on a lighter note
