Pain - the sensation of suffering, is generally considered an attribute of animals not plants and is mainly due to the fact that animals unlike plants possesses a nervous system thus implying they (animals) possess mental states. However there appears to be discoveries in plants that hints at the possibility of plants experiencing "pain" - in the view of some scientists.
