SEC14 WK:#5: Charity Begins at home
Charity what does it mean? |
---|
According to Merriam Webster dictionary: charity is "generosity or helpfulness especially toward the needy or suffering", it is "benevolent goodwill toward or love of humanity". From the definition above, we see that charity simply entails showing compassion for people, showing love and empathy to people around us be it our family members, our neighbours and our friends. It involves being generous , that Is giving freely a much as we can. Charity also means supporting someone in need , could be monitory support or kind gifts of clothing, food etc.
What is your view about charity and do you believe charity should begin at home? |
---|
I view charity as a way of expressing love and empathy toward the people around me. I see it as an act of kindness toward those in need. And I feel like everyone should make charitableness a part of their lives. Since it would go a long way in the service of humanity. Now one does not need to be the richest person to be charitable. We can still share the little we have with others.
I believe charity should begin at home because our family members should be our first priority. We must first make sure to take care of their needs. Before we extend charity to people outside our family. I mean, it would be act of hypocrisy if we are charitable outside while we neglect those who are our family members. That would be like trying to impress people outside while our own family members suffer and that wouldn't be ideal at all . The bottom line is that we should be charitable towards all but especially towards our family members.
What is the motivating factor for charity work and is it good to broadcast what you have done for others. |
---|
I think what should motivate us to be charitable is love. When we love our family members and humanity in general, we will be moved to serve, to want to make their life better in whatever way we can and to relieve them of suffering. So yes, the prime motivating factor for charity work is love.
Another motivating factor for charity work is compassion. Whe we are compassionate toward people it would be easier for us to want to help them. Compassion will make us look for ways to relieve them of their suffering.
Generousity is another motivating factor for charity work when we give easily and without being tight fisted it will be easier for us to think of giving when we see people in need. Being charitable attracts blessing from God. God himself is generous, so when we give generously we are imitating him and this makes him happy, this results in blessing from him.
Giving makes us happy a wise man once said "there is more happiness in giving than there is in recieving". There's this joy and satisfaction that comes with giving. We feel elated because we are able to assist others in ways that we can .
Going about to broadcast what we've done for others is not Ideal at all. It is demeaning to the person or people we offered to help and it reveals the true intentions of our heart; it would show that we were not charitable out of love and compassion but out of selfish interest so we would be seen as a good person or to receive public praise like :Mr C is such a "good man". Most times people who broadcast their charity work are not charitable towards their family members because thier more focused on visibility recognition and public praise . So my take is it is not good to broadcast what we do for others.
When was the last time you carried out charity work for the members of your home? |
---|
I carry out charity work everyday for the members. Of my family, i try to make sure they are okay and support them in the little ways I can. Because I know I don't have to wait till a certain period before I can be helpful to members of my family.
Your advice to others about charity |
---|
Charity is a necessity, it is necessary to be charitable so we should not make it optional. We should try to be charitable at every given opportunity or better still look for ways which we can be helpful to the people around us. Especially those who are our family members. We should make sure to begin our charitableness from home we don't want to neglect our family members while we take care of other that would not speak well of us at all.
I invite my friends @goodybest and @eliany to join this contest.
I agree with your advice. Charity is not just an option, it's a necessity. We should always look for ways to be helpful and kind to those around us, especially our family members. Starting our acts of charity from home is important because we shouldn't neglect our loved ones while taking care of others. It's all about finding opportunities to make a positive impact and showing care to those who need it. Keep up the charitable spirit, my friend.
You read carefully. I appreciate your comment. It is encouraging.
Charity, an expression of empathy, should be a part of everyone's life, regardless of wealth. Prioritizing family in charity is crucial; it's essential to care for loved ones before extending help to others. Nice piece.
Thank you so much

"Charity is an act of love" ....
I couldn't agree less, charity should be done out of love and not to seek benefits or rewards. I am so glad you pointed out that the first point of charity should be one own family members.
I strongly believe that with charity we really could make the world a better place.
