PHYSICS INTRODUCTION

In this week's edition, we will be learning about physics a pure science, it's application and career.

PHYSICS

Is one of the 3 main branches of pure science namely: Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Therefore, physics is a pure science, that studies the characteristic (behavior) of matter (mass and weight), energy ( the strength to do work either by man or machine) and how energy is converted from one form to another (heat, mechanical, chemical etc) as well as how matter connects with other physical properties.

TYPES OF PHYSICS

Physics is very broad, hence it is divided into 2 main branches

  1. The Classical Physics and
  2. The Modern Physics

The Classical Physics:

The Classical physics studies the following: mechanics, optics, heat, sound, wave, electricity, magnetism etc.

Modern Physics:

Modern physics studies matter at sub- atomic level which lead to the development of nuclear physics (nuclear bombs), quantum physics, and nanotechnology.

CONCEPT OF PHYSICS

In physics, there are two main concepts:

  • Experimental and
  • Theoritical concept

Experimental Concept:

In experimental concept, experiments are carried out to back up the theoritical idears

Theoritical Concept:

This a statement of fact that is only supported and accepted by experimental evidence

HOW TO UNDERSTAND/ STUDY PHYSICS AS A STUDENT

  1. You must have someone to look up to(role model)
  2. Must have a study plan
  3. You must think truly and clearly
  4. You should be able observe well and
  5. Must have a good mathematical foundation

APPLICATION OF PHYSICS

Since physics is so wide, it affects our everyday activities, therefore, physics is applied but not limited to the following areas:

  • Physics is applied in the production of needless that we use in sewing clothes.
  • Physics is applied in the production of iron that we use to build our homes and vehicles.
  • With the help of physics, we understand the motion of Automobiles, aircrafts and so on.
  • Physics is applied in the area of medicine by producing various medical equipments.
  • The study of physics brought electricity that we use in our various homes.
  • The study of physics makes us understand why we work without slipping (gravity).
  • Physics is applied in the production of fans, refrigerators, air-conditions etc.
  • Physics is applied in the field of geography, mathematics, biology and so on.

PHYSICS AS A CAREER

A person that studies physics is called a physicist.
There are various career path in physics, these include:

  • Astronomer
  • Medical physics
  • Metallurgist
  • Geophysicist
  • Physics teachers and professors
  • Clinical scientist
  • Meteorologist
  • Business analyst
  • Data analyst
  • Patent attorney
  • Can work in various industries etc.

MY ENTRY

  1. Physics is pure science that deals with the study of matter, energy, its conversion and the relationship between matter and other physical properties.

  2. There are two concepts in physics namely: the theoretical and the experimental concept

  • Experimental physics deals with the physical researches, analysis and observations carried out on physical properties that explain their nature. The experimental concept of physics tends to explain the behaviour of properties in our daily life.

  • The theoretical concept of physics deals with the results from the experiments that were carried out. It explains the behaviour of all properties. The theoretical concept is important to guide and educate others on the behaviour of physical properties.

3. With the knowledge of physics, a physicist can function as a physics teacher in schools.

Also, he can work in companies that deal with metals as a metallurgist.

A physicist can also work as a geophysicist.
