Hello friends it is a pleasure to post in this community once again after some time,since the times i been posting, I've been writing educational post so today i would love to make another one. Today i want to talk about wood and the properties of wood, so relax and enjoy reading this post.

Properties of materials: Wood

There are some materiald that are used in technology some of them are wood, metals, ceramics, rubbers and plastic. So today we are going to talk about wood.

Definition of wood
Wood refers to the hard fibrous material that forms the main substances of the trunk or branches of a tree.

Different ways wood can be identified
i) Their colour
ii) There classification (Soft wood and hard wood)
iii) There properties

The Internal structure of a wood is made up of the following;
i) Pith
ii) Xylem
iii) Phloem
iv) Cambium

Some of the outside or external part of a tree;
A) Roots
B) Trunks (Branches)
C) Leaves
D) Flowers
E) Seeds

Lets discuss the classes of wood we have

Classes of wood

We have two classes of wood, namely:
A) Hard work
B) Soft wood

A) Hard wood: This is called decidous wood found mainly in the tropical areas e.g Mahogany, obeche etc

Properties of hard wood

1. It is usually dark in coloir
2. Hardwood trees have broad leaves
3. They bear enclosed seeds
4. They produce heavier timber

B) Softwood: This is also called coniferous wood or just confer and is found in the less heat region of the world e.g Larch, Fire, Afarn, Spruce.

Properties of soft wood

1. It has lighter colour than hard wood
2. They bear naked seeds
3. It is not heavy onlike hard wood
4. lt haves leaves that are needle like

Uses of wood

Wood is used for in the following industries and processes

A) Housing: Wood is used for home furniture,doors and windows, roofing,tables,chairs, wardropes.
B) Pulp and paper: Exercise books, text books, magazines and pencils are made out of wood.
C) Tool making
D) Bridges and pole
E) Clothing
F) Transport
