As temperatures rise, our feline companions also suffer from the heat.

Cats, like us, feel heat and will show different signs when it starts to affect them, specially this year, when we experienced the most high temperatures in history.

Our cats sleep next to the door and sometimes we let them be Al day on air conditioning 'till the night.

How do you know that a cat is hot?

. Greater grooming: cats lick themselves more to cool themselves.
. High water intake: They drink more water to improve hydration.
. Cons: They may appear weaker and less active
.Hiding: They look for cool, dark places to seek shelter.
.Unusual positions: Lying on a cold surface, such as a tile floor or bathtub.

If, in addition to these symptoms, the cat has difficulty breathing or the color of the mucous membranes and skin changes, action should be taken immediately.

Cats can regulate their body temperature effectively in different breeds. Therefore, short-haired cats tolerate heat better than long-haired cats.

What we did to keep our cats cool:

. Provide a cool, ventilated area: Create a cool, shaded area where your cat can seek shelter. This can be in an air-conditioned room or in a corner of the house that stays cool during the day.

Moisturize vital areas: If your cat shows signs of heat, moisten his head, neck, back and tongue to help lower his body temperature.

Limit outdoor exposure: Avoid going outside during the hottest hours and engaging in excessive physical activity during the hottest hours of the day.

Play with them early in the morning or at night when the temperature is cooler.

Our feline companions also suffer from the heat. In my own experience, overheating can seriously affect its health, causing heat stroke or hyperthermia, which occurs when a cat's body temperature exceeds the physiologically appropriate temperature.

The heat is just as uncomfortable for cats as it is for humans... hard to believe, right?
