Protected Animals in My Country Cameroon

Introduction

Long before the sudden crash of the Asteroid on Earth, there existed many formidable creatures very big and very magnificent to look upon, just their skeletons show us how grand they were.

After the crash, the remaining magnificent creatures that stayed behind have been scattered all over the planet and as time passed, humanity has grown from killing these animals and seeing them as threats to protecting them and saving them for the future generations to see them and appreciate them.

What is Animal Protection

Animal protection is a act of setting aside all hate and desires to kill a group of animals and making sure that others follow that act especially when the animal in question is said to be endangered. This is done by either passing a decree against the killing of said animal or keeping the animals in a shelter where they are guarded by trained officials.

Cameroon has such laws and decrees which protects the killing of some animals which are said to be endangered or are about to become endangered. With that said, here are all the animals protected in my Country Cameroon

The African Elephant

The elephant is the biggest being on the planet, and it is protected by the

1. Law No. 94/01 of 20 January 1994: Relating to the conservation and management of wildlife and their habitats.
2. Decree No. 2006/377 of 20 November 2006: Establishing the list of protected species in Cameroon, which includes the African elephant.
3. Wildlife Conservation and Management Regulations (2011): Provides guidelines for conservation and management of wildlife.

They are kept in the WAZA park, Boumba Park, and Nki national Park in Cameroon. They are said to be at risk and so should be protected by the population at all costs, poachers hunt them to acquire meat and their tusk which they use for black market business

Cross River Gorilla

The cross River Gorilla is at critical risk of extinction in Cameroon pictured to be at 200 to 300 in population. They are protected by the laws such as

1. Law No. 94/01 of 20 January 1994: Relating to the conservation and management of wildlife and their habitats. 2. Decree No. 2006/377 of 20 November 2006: Establishing the list of protected species in Cameroon, which includes the Cross River Gorilla.
2. Wildlife Conservation and Management Regulations (2011): Provides guidelines for conservation and management of wildlife.

They can be found in the Korup National Park, Takamanda Park, Mbe mountains, and the Kwagene gorilla sanctuary.

Black Rhinoceros

The Black Rhinoceros is protected by the laws of Cameroon and the following national parks, they are said to be at risk but little is said about their population

The WAZA park protects them, Korup National Park, and Boumba Park.

African Golden Cat

The African Golden cat are estimated to be at 10000 in population and their number is said to be decreasing due to poaching and destruction of habitat, they occupy the dense rain forest.

They are protected by the

Laws:

1. Law No. 94/01 of 20 January 1994: Relating to the conservation and management of wildlife and their habitats. 2. Decree No. 2006/377 of 20 November 2006: Establishing the list of protected species in Cameroon, which includes the Cross River Gorilla.
2. Wildlife Conservation and Management Regulations (2011): Provides guidelines for conservation and management of wildlife.

And the protected areas include the Korup park, the Takamanda Park, the Mbe mountains and the Kwagene gorilla sanctuary.

Crested Genet

The crested Genet is a small animal which is endemic to Cameroon, it is mistaken for a cat but it has very long and furry tails and a slender body much more smaller than a domesticated cat, they exist in the wild in the Korup National Park in the Southwest region, Takamanda Park in the Southwest region and the Mefou national Park in the Center region.

They are protected by The Law No. 94/01 of 20 January 1994: Relating to the conservation and management of wildlife and their habitats. This law prohibits the hunting, capture, and trade of protected species, including the crested genet.
