SEC - S18W4 : Animal Welfare

Exploitation of animals for the sake of gaining various benefits for oneself without thinking about the impacts that occur is evidence of the lack of human empathy for the sustainability of animals. Until now, we still hear cases of animal exploitation that occur, both protected animals (rare) or violence against wild animals such as street dogs and cats.

The issue of animal exploitation is a very interesting one and we would like to thank the Steem Animals Community for providing a space for me to share my thoughts on the contest statement.

What do you think about the use of animals for human benefit, such as in the fashion, entertainment and consumer products industries?

I think, we should oppose the use of animals for the benefit of the fashion industry or entertainment that is increasingly happening today. Most of those who wear clothes, shoes or other fashion products made from animal skin feel cool and elegant. Our awareness of the cruelty behind its production should reduce the appeal for humans to use it.

Or how the lives of animals are taken from their habitats only to be trained for the entertainment industry. This is truly sad.

This is just a small example to illustrate my opinion on the statement above, and we are sure that we still have a lot of work to do in addressing these issues.

What do you think about the use of animal products in everyday life, such as leather, fur, and ivory?

There are many cases of animal abuse that occur in exploiting skin and ivory, I have even seen directly several types of animals skinned while alive to make the work easier for hunters. Or elephants that are left to die after their ivory is taken.

These incidents occur because of the industry's need for animal skins or ivory which have high economic value, thus causing animal hunting to become increasingly wild and immoral.

What can individuals do to contribute to protecting animals from exploitation?

Actually, there are many efforts that can be done such as not using the product, socialization and education to the community, reporting illegal hunting and others. The most important thing is awareness for us humans to maintain animal sustainability because the impact can damage the environment and harm humans.
