Assalamualaikum...
Good morning everyone, greetings to fellow Steem Biodiversity communities. On this occasion allow me to post my first post in this community, and the theme I will discuss is Understanding Biodiversity, Levels, Benefits for Humans and the Environment.

First of all, I would like to thank Admin Indonesia, @lingkar-photo because he has given me the opportunity to be present in this community, #Steembiodiversity . Check out my explanation below.

Biodiversity is the variety of life forms that exist on Earth. Both plants, animals, microorganisms, the genetics they contain, as well as the ecosystem, as well as the ecological processes that are built into the living environment. Biodiversity also acts as an indicator of ecological systems and a means of detecting changes in species. Biodiversity is also very important for the survival and sustainability of living things.

Therefore, it is important for all of us to always maintain a good balance of biodiversity on earth.

Some things in my opinion that can be done to maintain the balance of Biodiversity include; carry out environmental hygiene movements, take advantage of nature in moderation, avoid hunting rare animals, and all actions that can damage the environment.

A well-maintained environment or ecosystem can provide a decent and comfortable place to live for humans and all species and other living things on earth. The diversity of biological resources in Indonesia is very important for society and the world. In fact, biodiversity contributes to about 40% of the world's economy. Not only that, about 80% of the needs of people who are categorized as poor come from biological resources. The higher the level of biodiversity of an area, the greater the opportunity for development.

The following is about Levels of Biodiversity and its benefits which I have summarized.

Levels Biodiversity is divided into several levels, namely:

1. Gene-level biodiversity.

Gene-level biodiversity is the genetic variation within a species, either between geographically separated populations or between individuals within a population. The level of gene diversity arises because each individual has unique gene forms. Genetic variation increases when offspring receive unique combinations of genes and chromosomes from their parents through gene recombination that occurs through sexual reproduction.

2. Biodiversity at the Ecosystem level.

Ecosystem-level biodiversity is the diversity of habitats, biotic communities, and ecological processes in the biosphere (land) or ocean. In this ecosystem, all living things will have a reciprocal relationship, both between living things and living things with their environment or abiotic components.

3. Species level biodiversity.

Species diversity includes all species found on earth, both plants and wildlife. Species can also be defined as a group of individuals that exhibit some important characteristics that are different from other groups. These characteristics can be morphological, physiological, or biochemical.

The benefits of biodiversity for humans and the environment include:

  • Increase the ecosystem productivity of each species. No matter how small they are, they all have an important role in the ecosystem. For example, there are many plant species that have potential as medicines, reducing the impact of climate change, and as food sources.

  • Great species diversity ensures the sustainability of nature or supports all forms of ecosystem life. Another benefit is to play a role in reducing the risk of various natural disasters, such as mangrove trees in preventing abrasion and tsunamis.

  • The rainforest ecosystem in Indonesia is rich in species diversity. The loss of mangrove forests will have a negative impact because it is tantamount to eliminating the benefits of mangroves.

  • Well-managed natural resources will provide many benefits for human health.

  • Good biodiversity will provide a number of natural environmental services for humans. This includes protection of water resources, protection of soil from landslides and floods, storage of nutrients (nutrients).

  • Biological resources also play a role in absorbing environmental pollutants such as CO2, maintaining climate stability, and maintaining ecosystem balance.

That's it from my first post. Hopefully this post can be useful for all of us.
