Blockchain business...It's a thing
Steem is great. Steem is awesome. Steem is splendiferous...I've heard it all, and certainly agree that steem has so many great benefits as a social media platform: Multiple front-ends, multiple tokens to be earned, source of information and learning, a place for fun and enjoyment and a place where the everyday person can earn a little something through content-creation and curation.
But...How about steem as a business?
Some of you may have seen posts by steems' premier upycler @steemmatt in the past. He has a penchant for wandering the streets in his neighbourhood and a talent for finding discarded items which he upcycles and sells on for fiat. It never ceases to amaze me what he finds and subsequently sells it for.
But it's not just about money with Matt; He gives things away to needy people and also enjoys saving many pounds of stuff from ending up in landfill sites.
Anyway, business...
Recently Matt found some Lego and after some back and forth ended up selling it to legit Lego dude @brickmanbrad all the way down here in Australia, land of awesome people. The transaction took place using steem.
Bloody beautiful job Matt and Brad!
From there word rippled outwards as it tends to do here and a super-star called @carlgnash jumped on board with what ended up being his largest ever purchase made with steem...More Lego from Matt of course!
Nice work to all concerned.
On the back of that early transactional success @steemmatt decided to expand his fledgling steem-oriented business and has offered other items.
You can see the link to the latest sales post here offering a few items to the community, all of which can be purchased with steem.
It's cool right? I mean, I think it's cool to be able to buy Lego with steem as I love lego but think about the opportunities here...Buy stuff with steem you earned by blogging here on steem and commenting and curating. Too good to be true? Nope, it's happening.
Not long ago I purchased a custom made hunting knife that I had the awesome @freedompoint make for me...It shipped from the USA to me here in Australia without an issue and whist I didn't pay with steem I thought it was the coolest thing; Using steem to connect and purchase stuff.
We have a way to track conversations and transactions via the blockchain plus the ability to transfer payment securely and also to make payments with steem earned here for literally nothing...Other than some writing and curating.
I wonder how long it will be before it starts to really gain traction? Imagine that someone makes some sort of craft, my mother in-law and her greeting cards craft for instance...Make a post about it, earn steem and then sell some items making even more steem. Kind of a no-brainer right?
Oh, speaking of steem, our upcycler mate Matt has made...
1,085 STEEM from 3 sales in just 4 days
Sort of makes one take notice huh?
Imagine if steem prices went to $5USD...That's $5425 Matt just made. I don't know, sounds cool to me.
I wonder if there's opportunities here for others.
Do you draw, paint or make something? You could have a market here and earn some additional steem for your account. I'm sure the boffins would have way more ideas than I do about it as I'm just non-digital analogue dude, but to me it sounds like a reasonable opportunity to open up a marketplace. I heard there's a new steemleo shop around as well so there's another example of things being on the move!
Maybe we need a...
Marketplace Community?
I wanted to bring this to the attention of those in the community at large and also to ask @steemmatt to tag LEGO Community, that's #hive-142010, as his first tag if he has lego sales happening. That will post it into the Community. If you're a Lego person make sure you look out for it, there maybe a good opportunity to grab some steem-funded Lego!
Thanks for reading...Get selling...And buying y'all!

I think the Steem ecosystem has great potential. We have sold a few items to fellow Steemians. Some small homemade items and also a puppy. The puppy was a big ticket item. I think with a better market place on the platform buying selling and trading could really take off.
Great post Mate!
Hey there, thanks a lot!
Steem also helped you sell that bull too if I recall correctly. I think there's really great potential for those who have the ability to get it set up. It's a brave new world huh?

I forgot about the bull. You have a great memory
Yes the potential is amazing. I look forward to what the future holds
My wife would argue with you on the memory comment...I can never remember to clean up behind myself around the house! Lol.
and i think shops like shop.steemleo.com is a great thing...

I think there have been to create marketplaces but for various reasons they didn’t gain much traction or the website costs became preventative. I think the dropping of the Steem price made things unworkable.
But I can easily see there being Etsy style stores springing up, or at least a “pay by Steem” button attached to websites.
There really is no limit to this stuff.
I love hearing about use cases for Steem. One time I took a photo of a McDonald’s Hot Fudge Sundae and asked people to upvote it to see if it would pay for itself. The price of Steem had jumped to like $0.40US (it was a while ago)and it returned 3 fold.
I do know that people advertise their home-based businesses on Steem, and I am starting to see my own account as something of a brand. It needs a design overhaul, sure, but I want it to be an account you can trust and that both FIAT and Steem flow freely through it.

That should read “there were attempts...” to create markets and steem based shops but the exchange rate wasn’t steady enough. But eventually it will get better.
Yes, I'm sure it will move forward and people will make better use of the tech.
you are right...

Mate, you're probably 100% right about the cost-preventative thing...I got no clue...I'm the ideas man, not the tech-boffin! LOL
Seriously though, I think there could be a great opportunity for Etsy-style things here and in the future a lot more. I was just floating the idea based on @steemmatt and what he has done with some recent Lego sales.
I don't know man, I think it could be a cool thing.

Speaking of blockchain business and selling / buying stuff, I wonder if there'll be a Steem based eBay kind of platform one day? F.e you have something collecting dust on one of your shelves that you never really use, and decide to turn it into Steem - just put it up for sale or auction, add information about shipping (if it's in the price or shipping is extra and if you ship worldwide or locally...). I think it'd be pretty awesome.
I think the sky is the limit here and there's no reason your suggestion couldn't happen. I think it's heading that way actually to be honest, away from fiat payment and what better platform than the steem blockchain to run it on?

Will you be selling your awesome LEGO model builds? ( I suspect not)
For mostly technical people and investors on here at the moment, waiting for more creative people to start selling their work.
Hmm, now that's a questions I've struggled with for a while. I think not, although I may sacrifice one as a competition prize to one of the subscribers of the Lego Community. At this stage I am thinking maybe the Mack truck and trailer as it wold have a lot of impact. I'd need a lot more subscribers on there before I announced that though.
Eventually they will go to my niece and nephew (for their dad's to build with them) but they are too young at the moment. 3.5 and 18 months old respectively. Those little nutbags get everything of mine when I'm gone anyway and I'd rather see them enjoy the Lego now.
There's no reason why a person couldn't sell things here, of course shipping can be expensive, but as the community grows even just local shipping would be extremely possible. We are an online shopping culture now anyway. Why not on steem? :)
That prize will get subscribers lining up for sure.
Yes, you would think so. I'll see I guess. Either way, I'll be running a few competitions, giveaways mostly, and I know @brickmanbrad is doing the same.
blockchain business is one of the most interesting business to get engaged in right now...

you are right...

i see it more as an investment than a business...
Posted via Steemleo
Yes, I believe it's an exciting opportunity for those who get onboard early. Thanks for stopping by.
alot of people make cool money from the blockchain and it makes it more appealing to so many investors...
Posted via Steemleo
i believe what makes it more appealing is the fact that one can earn very huge profits from their investment....
Posted via Steemleo
Yeah, it's pretty awesome I think...A brave new world of opportunity. What people do you know making money as you said in your comment? Anyone in particular? I'd love to check them out.
yeah that is the fact
Posted via Steemleo
how will it can be purchased by steem? From steemians as well?
It's a good idea to sell things or offer things to earn steem. But the thing is that you should be selling something new or else you don't earn a bit. It's easy also if there are many communities that are near if you want to do business in steem. But I think it's hard to happen in my country. Not too many steemians will be interested maybe because the number of people who are in steem is not that too many. Anyway nice thoughts about steem
You read the post right? @steemmatt sent Lego to Australia from USA, that's a long way...It wasn't new Lego either, it was stuff he found sitting on the footpath.Still, you're probably right, about your country, I've never been there so have no clue.
We need a STEEM escrow service! This is so cool, I hadn't even thought about it. I also didn't know that you purchased the knife using STEEM... What excitement this gives me! :)
It would be cool to see stuff winging all over the world, changing hands and paid for with steem. I think it could happen.
I think so too... I also think that the implementation of such a service would make everything a lot cheaper! EXCEPT STEEM! Lol.
Haha, yes steem is one the few things I'd like to see get really expensive!
The concept is brilliant of course, when I first joined people were trying to sell items through a marketplace here but I think that project died out. I'm sure it'll work if structured correctly and marketed enough to get people's attention.
If enough buy person to person I think it will eventually ripple outwards. For now it's cool to know I can get some Lego from @steemmatt or a knife from @freedompoint and as more start to buy, sell and trade it will build.
I agree. Hey I don't know if you ever got an answer to the question about using multiple tags for different communities on the same post but I asked a very experienced and knowledgeable steemian and she said yes that was fine as long as the post content was tied to all the tags mentioned.
Ah cool, yeah I heard the same. I think if the post is to be placed into a Community that particular hove tag needs to be first though. Thanks mate, much appreciated.
Sup Dork?!? Enjoy the Upvote!!! Keep up with the dorky content for more love!!!
